One of the hardest things about being a parent, for most of us, is getting our kids on the road. We have to make sure our teens are well educated so they can be safe drivers. This task usually turns out to be a lot harder than we think it will be!

In most states, parents can provide this education with some help from the state department that regulates driving and licensing. They will provide all the materials that are needed to help teach a teenager to drive, and to help them pass the required written and driving exams. Some parents choose to go this route.

You may also find driving schools in your city. Some schools still provide this education, though that is getting more rare. Private driving schools provide classroom education and some hours of observation and practice behind the wheel of a car.

The biggest objection to a private driving school is that the classes are expensive. Programs may range from $400 to $1,400, depending upon the location and the amount of classes that are provided. This expense may cause some parents to try to do the job themself.

However, I am in favor of spending the extra money for a driving school. There are several advantages. Even though the classes may seem expensive, I think they probably save most people money in the long run.

For one thing, many of the best car insurance conpanies offer a big discount for young drivers that complete a class. Younger drivers are usually more expensive to insure because they fall into a high risk class. Anything that cuts premiums will be welcome. If you pay $500 for classes, but end up getting a 20 percent discount on your auto insurance premiums, it will probably pay back your investment within several months.

Companies are different when it comes to the offers and discounts you may get for driving schools. You can always run some online insurance quotes so you will know how much money you may save.

In addition, these schools provide trained instructors. They are kept up to date on the newest regulations and driver's safety tips. Many middle aged parents are very good drivers. But they have no idea how to pass their skills and experience on to their kids. If the tips and instruction from a good driving school help your teen avoid an accident, you will certainly save a lot more than the cost of the classes!

The schools save you a lot of time too. Many states require that permit drivers spend dozens of hours behind the wheel with parents. If you can just drop your son or daughter off at the school to meet this requirement, you can go on to do other things like work or attend to duties. So you have to take your own time into account too.

Finally, good schools provide classes to help educate young people in the very real dangers of using drugs or alcohol when they intend to drive. This has been demonstrated to prevent a lot of accidents, and even a lot of terrible trragedies!

Yes, driving schools do seem cost a lot. But I think the real cost of skipping the classes could cost a lot more!

Teen drivers are expensive to insure. Our online insurance quotes can help you save time and money by searching for the best deal in your area. We believe that we provide the best insurance quotes because we work for consumers, and not a particular insurance company!
