Preparing for the big move is a really exciting time, especially if it's your first and your finally moving out of your family's home. But even if it's just from one apartment to an even nicer one or a whole brand new city, you need to take to organizing your home before hand so that the move can go smoothly.

The first thing you can tackle in organizing your home is your clothing. It's the best time to shuffle through and make three piles; the clothes you'll keep, the clothes you can donate, and the clothes that are so worn they need to be thrown out. You'll save yourself a lot of hassle of packing clothes you don't need into boxes and carrying them to the new apartment. It's a waste of space in your rental truck or your car and a waste of extra energy.

Next you may want to invest in jewelry organizers for not just necklaces and bracelets, but other small odds and ends. You'll be surprised how many small items you can fit like sewing needles, tweezers, and other beauty items you don't want to lose in any little cracks and crevices. Good jewelry organizers will have a way to fasten closed that will keep everything together.

Other entertainment items may be your next choice. There are plenty of organizing products for DVDs, CDs, video games and books that will make travel easy. Get carrying cases that keep everything in one place but also protect those things that are most fragile. The last thing you need is your favorite box set getting ruined in the move.

If you do have any fragile kitchen items like china or just hazardous items like scissors and knives, you'll need organizing products that will cover them safely not only to keep them from breaking but to keep anyone else from getting hurt transporting them. China storage that slips on like a sleeve works well. It'll cushion between each piece so they don't chip. There is also boxed storage for knife sets. It should still be taped shut if possible to avoid accidents.

The big move is exciting and a lot of work as it is. Save that space and time by starting organizing a couple of months before hand so you have a minimal amount to pack when it's all said and done. Now is the time to really go through the things you don't need and start anew!
