Being Jewish and single is great if you enjoy the independence that comes with living in a city as a young adult. But if you're like many Jews, you want to meet someone who is like you, who you can befriend and enjoy spending time with. If you fall into this category there are a lot of options for meeting people. Here are some to think about:

1. New York City: New York has more Jews than any other place in the world outside of Israel, with about 15% of the world's total Jews. Of course there are Jewish communities in big cities all around the U.S., but if you really want to meet someone, your chances increase dramatically when you have more selection. Jewish Long Island, Brooklyn or any other part of the city is a great place to situate and make a career, especially if you want to find someone of a similar background.

2. Volunteer: In New York, there are lots of organizations that you can become a part of. For example, J Corps is non religious and non denominational, open to Jews in between the ages of 18 and 28. Not only will you meet lots of people, but you will be helping out the community while you do.

3. Parties: Going to a friend's house for a gathering is a great way to introduce yourself to lots of Jews. Typically, friends share more in common with you than strangers, and so you will have a better shot of meeting someone through a mutual friend. Chances are you will have a lot in common with them also.

4. Chabad House: Although Chabad is an orthodox group, many people who attend their events are not. This will leave you with a mixed group of people from which you may find a significant other.

5. Jewish Gym: At the Y, there are often events for Jewish singles.

6. Jewish Cruises: That's right. A kosher cruise will take you around the world while as you share rich travel experiences with a variety of people.

7. Online Dating: If none of the above are working, give online dating a shot. Lots of people use these networks to search and find dates. Plus, speed dating can actually be fun, if you enjoy bars and restaurants. Over the past few years these sites have increased dramatically in popularity. Many professional Jews don't have time to get out and meet people, so these options are great. You can narrow your searches of people based on common interests and what you are looking for in a mate. Jewish Facebook groups are another great way to network.

If you try all of these strategies and still no dice, don't get down. In love, or lack thereof, persistence pays off. Oftentimes, you will meet someone great when you least expect it. Hey, at least I didn't suggest asking your mother if she knows anyone, right?

The Chai Center NY is the place to go if you want Jewish Long Island. Classes and events celebrate Judaism.
