Getting catering services for your party can make your life so much easier. Whether its an intimate gathering of friends and family for a wedding, or a public event for hundreds of people, catering makes an event that much more elegant and takes out a lot of work on your part. After all, you do not have to worry about any of the food besides picking a menu that hopefully everyone will like. But, you may not know whether to use self-service or full service catering for your specific event.

Firstly, you need to understand the difference between the two options. Self-service catering means that you'll have the food cooked, catered, and set up for you, but the guests at the party will be lining up and serving themselves. Full service means that you'll have employees from the catering service there to set up, serve food, and attend to your guests' needs.

Self-service catering works for situations where you do not have that many guests or do not mind having a buffet style, which suffices for a more laid back atmosphere. It's also a great way to get people up and out of their seats, in general. Letting them pick their own meals makes things easier, as they can choose what they will and will not eat, instead of having to worry about specific plates and whether there are options on each for everyone. Here, they have all the food on display for them to choose what and how much of it they want.

Full service is perfect when you want to really impress. It works for the big galas, the charity events, or the wedding you want to throw to make you feel like a king or a queen. It can run the gamut from people serving behind the buffet tables to actual waiters and waitresses coming around and taking orders. You can have a full, attended bar with this option as well.

Self-service catering costs less than full service because you will not have entire staff working your event, so looking at budget may be important before making a choice. You will also have to consider the amount of guests, the size of the venue, and how well either option will work in dealing with guest flow and space. No matter which you pick, catering in general is going to be a huge help to you and your event.

Bon Soir Caterers is one of the best catering companies in the New York City area. Whether full service or self service and with a vast array of menus, they'll make your event delicious. Their blog is a great resource for information on catering tips and information.
