Some men really struggle with picking out diamond engagement rings for their girlfriends. Considering how picky women can sometimes be, it's not surprising that they dread going to the stores. Hopefully your gal will say yes no matter what you choose, but your future bride shouldn't have to suffer wearing a ring she really hates. Follow these basic tips and you just might find the process a little bit easier.

First and foremost, you need to pay attention. I'm assuming you've been thinking about proposing for awhile. Now is the time to pay attention to the jewelry she wears. Take notice of what color metal she wears the most. Does she favor gold jewelry over silver? White gold over platinum? You might have to take a peek at her jewelry box. What style jewelry does she wear? Do you notice sleek and simple designs? Vintage? Bold and daring? Just make sure you're noticing the jewelry she wears all the time and not just from time to time. She might feel bold every so often, but would prefer a simple, classic ring.

Has she hinted at her likes and dislikes when it comes to diamond engagement rings? She probably has, but were you paying attention? If not, don't be afraid to take her shopping. It won't be hard to take her to the jewelry stores. Listen to what she says as she comments on items. If you want to be smooth and subtle about it, tell her you're looking for a new watch. Then casually walk past the engagement rings counter. If her friends are engaged, does she like their rings? Why or why not? If she doesn't like diamonds, and some women don't, you can always purchase sapphires, rubies, or other gemstones. You don't need to follow tradition.

Think about what will look best on her hand. If done right, a marquise or oval diamond can make short fingers look longer. But some women really hate those shapes, so be smart. Round diamonds and princess cut diamonds are the most popular shapes, with square and emerald cut not too far behind. If she has simple tastes, consider just a single diamond on the band. If she likes jewelry a little more ornate, a cluster of diamonds on both sides.

If all attempts fail and the decision is just too difficult to make, you can always pick out just the diamond and let her pick out the setting at a later date. Choosing a diamond from reputable jewelers is a far less intimidating task.

ID Jewelry online is a jewelry store online that sells diamonds engagement rings for exceptional prices. Even if you aren't looking to buy diamonds online, they have a wide variety of other precious and semi-precious stones.
