We live in a digital age that constantly bombards us within the confines of our desktop or laptop. Online marketing is now a crucial aspect of spreading the word about your business and what you offer to clients and customers. But that certainly doesn't mean the physical, now "old-school," aspect of marketing has become obsolete. It may not be as strong as it once was, but it's far from dead. People still enjoy seeing and touching promotional materials. It's why so many of us still prefer going to the store to purchase clothing. Seeing clothing on you just doesn't compare to online shopping. Some things are better said here in the physical world.

This is why business promotional items will never die. When you go to a business convention, what are you going to give people? An e-mail? Yeah they'll see that e-mail alright and just delete it because they've already forgotten who you are and what you do. If you're not already on their contact list, it will go straight to the spam folder. Lost forever. But if you hand them a flash drive with your company name and phone number, there is a much better chance of them remembering. It's hard to forget someone when you're drinking out of a mug with your company plastered all over it.

Promotional materials are a form of contact, to constantly remind a client about you. But they're most effective when you choose items that people want and will use. Pens are very useful, but do you have any idea how many promotional pens people receive? They're a dime a dozen, a waste of money. Mugs are awesome, expensive, but awesome. However, there is a high chance that people would rather use their witty mug condoning coffee addiction than your company's. USB flash drives, recyclable bags, and umbrellas are items we all need and will actually use. And it never hurts to have a spare of these imprinted promotional items.

While the items themselves are important, equally important is the information on them. Depending on what you chose, your space might be somewhat limited. At least your company name/logo, a phone number, and a website should be listed. If you can fit a bit more pertinent information, great. Just don't overload it. They still need to be visually appealing.

Promotional items can be the link between yourself and potential clients. Don't get wrapped up in this digital world thinking anything physical is useless. There is a place for marketing materials so long as you know how to use them correctly.
