Finding no fee apartments isn't very difficult. There are great treasure troves of them on the internet all in one spot! It can be as easy as just going to have a look at the ones that are in your chosen neighborhood and the right size. Making that apartment home isn't just about moving your stuff in, it's also about having a happy living situation there. That's where the landlord comes in.
You want to definitely make friends with your landlord. They are going to be an ally to you. If you are a clean and fastidious person with no record of breaking a lease, not paying your rent, or breaking the rules, you should be just fine!
It couldn't hurt to get a referral from your previous landlord stating that you are good tenant. They should mention your payment history, how you left your previous apartment with regards to property damage, and other mentions of good merit will help you become an upstanding tenant to your new landlord.
Don't try to sneak around the landlord either. If you have a pet, you should say so. Never try to sneak in a dog or cat because chances are, you will eventually be found out and that good reputation that you have will be tarnished. Don't try to get around the landlord on any other matters either, like number of people living in the apartment or rules about painting, dishwashers, and other terms of the lease.
Remember that the landlord wants to rent out the apartment. They want the money to start coming in and they don't want to have to wait longer than they have to. Because of this, they will usually work with you on the terms of the lease. This gives you a great opportunity to deal with the landlord. Don't try to undersell them because they won't appreciate that, and trust me when I say that the landlord is someone that you want to keep on your side.
The reason you want the landlord on your side in the first place is that if you are experiencing problems, they are more likely to help you. If you have a loud neighbor or an issue with someone taking your assigned parking spot, your landlord will have the desire to help you because you have never given them a reason to dislike you.
A good tenant with a good relationship with the landlord will prove fruitful in many ways. Keep yourself in their good graces and you will have a happy existence in your great, new apartment.
