More and more people are turning to orthopedic shoes because they realize that it's hard to ignore foot
pain. But there's a stigma that orthotics are these clunky, ugly things. This is very much untrue now.
You can now find shoes tailored for use that are just as design savvy as the regular sneakers you see
everywhere. Say goodbye to frumpy clogs and say hello to the abundance of new options available to
you.

There once was a time when "suffer for fashion" was a realistic motto but that is no longer the case.
With the amount of walking we do on a daily basis this rule created by fashion moguls should not imply
footwear. You can pair a cool outfit with a simple set of shoes and not be considered a cat walk faux pas.
Base your shoe selection based on the activity you participate in. On casual days a sporty choice with a
gel insole and arch support will suffice. Women going out to dinner can find comfort shoes with heels
that give proper balance and won't cause blistering. Find something with strong straps that will keep
your foot in place. Women's orthopedic shoes are definitely starting to take fashion seriously because all
eyes are on accessorizing.

Sports, jogging, and similar physical activity will require footwear with reliable heel and arch supports.
Look specifically for athletic gear. You will find sub-categories for running, hiking, basketball, and overall
performance. These will each have unique features to guarantee comfort and reduce the chances of
over-pronation and supination.

If you already own a fairly nice pair of shoes and you just want to up the comfort level then you can
invest in a pair of Spenco insoles or other gel and cushion-based inserts. They will balance your fashion-
savvy dress code with far less pain.

For more severe injuries you will probably need in shoe braces or splints. In some cases you can cover
the area around your leg and ankle with long pants. Nobody will be the wiser. Most of them are made
pretty thin and not as noticeable as others. Although quite honestly you will want to take some time
before you start putting on those dress shoes or boots again.

Basically your new mantra when sole shopping is "I can have both," you get the cool look and you get
the pain alleviation. Don't you dare settle for less.

The Orthotic Shop is your source for all comfort shoes. From orthotic sandals to arch supports to plantars fasciitis remedies, we've got you covered.
