Every year magazines do top ten lists. Top ten colleges, places to work, businesses, people to watch, and so on all grace the pages of magazine covers from coast to coast. These great lists are conducted by various institutions of polling and information gathering and are generally the "go-to" when anyone has a question regarding a certain topic.
A topic that is at the forefront of many American's minds at the moment is the economy. People are more worried than ever about money. Mainly, they're worried about not having enough of it. It seems a shame that people who have worked their whole lives toward retirement end up realizing that their assets, social security, and other forms of income are just not enough to get by. With the costs of health care, food, housing, and other necessities going skyward and the incomes plummeting, it is a completely valid concern. In these times, many Americans are looking at moving outside of the boundaries of the United States. A recent "top ten" list from several magazines is telling them where to go. The list ranges everywhere from Guatemala and Nicaragua to France.
Amazingly, or maybe not so amazingly to those who are in the know, many of the retirees are moving to Panama. Panama retirement has been rated among the best in the entire world. Some couples who were skeptical spoke out recently in a Reuter's article. They had been planning on moving to California to retire but realized they couldn't afford it. After some careful thinking they bought some Panama real estate and moved south. This couple has a great love of wine, two spoiled cats, and they eat out with friends on a routine basis. All of this with health care, food, and lodging only cost them around $1,500 per month. Wouldn't it be nice if eating out in the middle of the capital was only $7 for a good meal? Really, the $1,500 figure is living high on the hog. A lot of people can make it with a far smaller budget.
With all of the money woes that are circling around the United States, living in a country with a low cost of living and great amenities to boot is definitely a good looking option. So in the next few years, don't be surprised if you see a lot of the citizens of retiring age moving to Panama!
