Rainy days and rambunctious children may be taxing on your nerves and on your furniture. Stir-crazy children seem to have a propensity for entertaining themselves by leaping off of expensive furniture. This is potentially dangerous for the children and damaging to the furniture.

Children generally get this riled up when they have not had the opportunity to run off their excess energy. So, it is imperative for everyone's mental health that they have an opportunity to play outside and tire themselves out. If you live in the city, take them to a playground. If you live in the suburbs, set them free in your back yard. Doing this will allow them to feel less manic, you to relax, and your slipcovers to remain free of footprints.

Unfortunately, this is a season for inclement weather, so if it is too nasty outside to bundle up the kids and play in the snow or rain, try to find other activities that will engage them. If there is as local children's museum in the area, and the weather permits travel, take them to it; children's museums generally have interactive exhibits that are designed to engage kids.

If you do end up stuck in the house, you should obviously try to discourage children from jumping and climbing on the furniture, since this musses the slipcovers and is an accident-prone activity. Try to play engaging indoor games, such as Simon Says, with them. This will keep them moving, but in a more controlled manner. Then, to wind down, bake, color, read, or watch a movie together. If you do not want the furniture slipcovers and the rest of the house to be a mess, designate a specific room in which you may all hang out. Doing this will help you contain the clutter and chaos.

It may be an old-fashioned notion, but if you have the space, identify one room to be used only for guests or on special occasions ensure that you will have a space in your house that always looks pristine. Slipcovers will help you protect the furniture, but children should know that this is special furniture that must be treated with extra respect. This does not mean that the room is completely off-limits to children; it only means that an adult should be with them in it, since it is not a hangout spot.

Sometimes, the weather outside is too frightful to brave. If this is the case, keep your children engaged and entertained to protect your slipcovers and furniture from their compressed energy. Making the day inside into a fun adventure will help protect your slipcovers and your sanity.

SlipCoverShop.com has a fantastic selection of easy-to-care-for and decorative furniture slipcovers. From daybed covers to futon covers and beyond, you can find beautiful designs for the home.
