I'm not an attorney, I am a judgment expert. This article is my opinion, and not legal advice. If you ever want a strategy to use or legal advice, please contact an attorney.

Many judgment creditors have no clue to what a judgment is actually worth to buyers of judgments who really pay money up front for typical judgments.

Most judgment creditors avoid the truth when it comes to their judgment, and believe their judgment is worth their face value and/or guaranteed.

The truth is that judgment payments are not guaranteed, and no judgment has ever been purchased for more than a really substantial discount off its original amount.

Certain judgment creditors squander time with misrepresenting businesses on the internet, which boast "banana oil" false promises like "We pay up to fifty percent cash up front for your judgment".

Some judgment creditors squander a huge quantity of time, offering their judgment for sale for a imagined and preconceived selling price.

That's similar to visiting a Honda dealer to purchase a brand new 2012 Honda CR-V, with a hard offer price of a $10K cashier's check.

An impartial person would agree that it's a waste of time to visit dealers with your hard offer of $10K, when no dealers could sell a new CR-V at twice that price.

Picture a person who wasted a huge amount of time calling on one hundred Honda vehicle stores with a $10,000 cashier's check, being rejected one hundred times. Doing that would be silly, however that's close to what some judgment creditors do, if they attempt to sell a $10,000 judgment for $5,000 cash up front, to one hundred potential buyers of a judgment.

It doesn't matter which buyers of a judgment you send that range of a cash up front offer to, as no buyers of a judgment pays above the the real cash up front judgment value.

Typical judgments sell for one to seven percent cash up front, or for a future payment of fifty percent, after a collection of any money from the judgment. If a debtor is wealthy, one may find better rates; yet the price is based on situations not under your control or wishes.

What are some factors used for pricing real cash up front sales of judgments? Debtors may die, get sick, go out of business, file for bankruptcy, change their names, work for cash, move, set aside the judgment, etc.

These are many other factors which effect prices for cash up front judgment sales, if a judgment is against people or a person:

The age of the debtor, the state they live in, the county and state the judgment originated at, how common of a name the debtor has, whether the debtor has an identical name as their parents and grandparents, if they are divorced, married, or owing or paying support, which assets they seem to possess, the kind of money they receive or earn, what debts they seem to owe, the number of other liens and judgments are against them and the amount the other liens and judgments total to, their bankruptcy story, the general (and local) economic situation, the health of the debtor, their alcohol or drug problems, criminal problems, etc.

When a debtor is a business or company, there are many other factors which affect cash up front pricing:

A company's age, their corporate status, the state they are registered in, the county and state the judgment originated, how common a name the company has, if the business is owned by another entity, which assets the company seems to own, the kind of business it is, the money they receive or earn, what debts they seem to owe, the number of other liens and judgments are against them and how much the other liens and judgments total, their bankruptcy history, the general (and local) economic situation, the size of the company, complaints on the company, their internet presence, etc.

A judgment's cash up front value depends on the factors above, and the judgment buying market. Any cash up front judgment value has nothing to do with any referral, judgment buyer, or judgment broker; or any needs, wishes, wants, or conditions of the original judgment creditor.
