The theme parks of Orlando are world renowned and well worth visiting, but sometimes when the lines are long and the sun is hot it is good to have a change of pace and go out in the country for another kind of activity. If you have children then a great place to visit is the Green Meadows Petting Zoo in Kissimmee, Florida.

The zoo is home to 300 farm animals and the Petting Zoo offers a two hour "hands-on" tour. Each person is encouraged to have first hand experience by touching all the animals (which include cows, goats, ducks, pigs, geese, donkeys and more). The goal of zoo is to educate children and adults about farm animals and they sure do a good job at it.

If your children have grown up in an urban environment and think that milk comes from cartons in the supermarket then a visit to a place like Green Meadows is both fun and educative all at the same time.

The guided tours are geared to the age level of the children and the children really enjoy it. They get a chance to milk a cow, take a pony ride, and enjoy a tractor-drawn hayride. For the youngest children the zoo has "Little Red Wagons" allowing them to keep up with the gang. During the month of October everyone gets to pick a pumpkin from the farm's pumpkin patch.

For anyone worried about germs, there are hand-sanitizing stations all along the path.

In addition to these activities everyone can take a ride on the Green Meadows express, an old time railroad, and there is an area where you can purchase beverages, snacks and souvenirs.

The grounds are pleasant with shade trees and a good tip to any visitor is to bring a picnic lunch and take advantage of the picnic area for a relaxing lunch.

Green Meadows Petting Farm is not only suited for families but is also ideal for elementary and nursery schools, day care centers, church groups, scouts and birthday parties.

For more information about Green Meadows Petting Farm, reservations, ticket prices, group information, advertising, or media information, please call them at their main office number (407) 846-0770. Their address is as follows: Green Meadows Farm, Ltd.1368 South Poinciana Blvd. Kissimmee, FL 34746

In case you are not able to make it to Florida, Green Meadows also operates petting farms in several other locations in the U.S. including: Naperville, IL 1-800-799-1166 , Jessup, MD 1-800-799-1166, Frederick, MD 1-800-799-1166, Hazlett, New Jersey, Floral Park, NY 718-470-0224 and Grand Prairie, TX 1-800-799-1166

The price of admission at the Kissimmee farm is currently $21, and although that may seem high for a petting farm most visitors feel that the fun and memories of their visit make it well worth the cost. So, if you want to do something a bit different while you are visiting Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World and the other attractions at Orlando, then grab a picnic lunch and head out to the peaceful countryside and the Green Meadows Petting Zoo
