Training to become a qualified gas engineer may seem complex but choosing the right training centre can make the learning journey a lot easier.

All potential engineers that are fresh to the industry would benefit from taking a new entrant gas training programme that introduces the basic skills needed to work successfully within the sector.

During a new entrant learning course, trainees can expect to undertake a series of exams and practical assessments that are intended to satisfy instructors that all aspects of the learning are being fully understood.

Once a trainee has completed this initial stage of learning, they will be required to demonstrate that they are able to perform work under the supervision of a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Candidates will need to prove their ability by recording their progress in a portfolio which will be gathered and certified by a Gas Safe Engineer as this will show their competence in real life situations.

Building an impressive portfolio is arguably the most important part of training to become a gas engineer as it demonstrates to employers and examiners the ability to work in a pressured environment.

Sometimes finding a placement to work on a portfolio can prove difficult as some engineers do not have the necessary resources to take on a trainee and this where choosing the right training centre really pays off.

Some of the most reputable training centres will be able to place you with a sister company where trainees will be allowed to work with Gas Safe registered engineers in the real life world of work.

Working with a centre's sister company is particularly ideal as the engineers will now what it takes to build a successful portfolio and what is required by assessors to complete the learning process.

Once a trainee engineer has completed their portfolio, they will need to return to their chosen training centre in order to achieve the appropriate award in (ACS): CCN1(Core Gas Safety) and Appliances.

Training to become a fully qualified gas safe registered engineer is quite costly and can run into thousands of pounds which is a worthwhile investment that can be paid back once employment is secured.

Some centres are able to provide a flexible payment system that allows trainees to pay as they train so that they do not have to part with a large lump sum before commencing learning.

If you are not sure where to start looking to take gas training courses, some obvious places are the internet or speak to practising engineers to discover who they recommend the most.

Able Skills provide training through plumbing courses and electrical courses. Able Skills have opened an Energy Saving Training Centre to provide approved training on the installation of energy efficient forms of heating and lighting.
