Full credit must be given to Jet Airways (India) for all they have accomplished in just seventeen short years since their inception in 1993. But their mission statement says it all, and the long list of awards they have won attests to their serious approach to fulfilling their goals. They flatly state they will be the airline of choice in their home country of India and rise above all the standards of other airlines. Going further, they are wholly committed to providing the highest quality for reliable operations and service. As far as domestic air passenger service is concerned, Jet Airways will strive to become a world class airline of choice for domestic travel. From what we have seen, this airline seems to be on-target to meet their goals.
Jet Airways was established by Naresh Goyal who, at the time, was owner of Jetair. His company was responsible for marketing and sales support for foreign airlines operating in India. The original goal of Mr. Goyal was for Jet Airways to be a direct competitor of Indian Airlines which is owned by the Indian government. Indian Airlines was the airline conglomerate from the early 1950s until 1994. At that time, in 1994, the Air Corporations Act was abolished, and that set the stage for the emergence of Jet Airways to begin flight operations. JetLite Airlines, a subsidiary of Jet Airways, was formed when the company bought Air Sahara. In May of 2009, Jet Konnect was created as an alternative to expanding JetLite. The issue at heart concerned unacceptable regulatory delays incurred from the transfer of aircraft from Jet Airways to JetLite. So apparently it was easier to simply create a new airline. The third quarter of 2010 was very good for the parent and JetLite companies. The combined operations enjoyed a market share of 26.9% of the domestic air passenger business in India. That figure is based on number of passengers carried which seems to be a good criteria. That metric earned the company the distinction of being the domestic air passenger carrier market leader within India.
The Premier Class seating offers extra wide seats arranged in a two by two arrangement. The extra wide seats measure forty inches across. In addition, each seat features a wide-screen LCD monitor for various uses. Then there is the Economy Class found on Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft. These accommodations also include a personal wide-screen LCD, as well. Jet Airways has the distinction of being the first airline to provide in-flight entertainment systems for passengers flying on the B-737. As far as seat configuration, while the Premier Class is 2 x 2, the Economy Class is 3 x 3 across. While the international destinations have been somewhat curtailed in response to the general economic climate, Jet Airways continues to provide services to the vast majority of original locations. The company has announced plans to resume flights soon to some of those cities.
