Buying used chainsaws can be a daunting task if you are a novice with very little experience in the chainsaw market.
In this article, we'll give you some handy tips of where to search for the best buys or at least give you some ideas of where look. Buying used over new is not something we normally preach particularly when it comes to chainsaws however, if you are only using the machine sparingly or have a tight budget then used may be the best option.
Beware The Chance Of Inheriting Problems
Inheriting problems is a major drawback when purchasing second hand items. With chainsaws, this can be a real problem particularly if you have little knowledge of how much stress a machine can endure during it's lifetime.
Chainsaws perform rugged jobs and if a machine is not serviced regularly, then it can display some bad symptoms and if these are not rectified and you purchase, you'll not only inherit something which will give you poor service but could also present some safety issues.
Shopping For Used Chainsaws
Here's a list of places you can search for used chainsaws:
Go to your local dealer. This is the best place to start and by letting them know you have a tight budget and are in the market for a used chainsaw you'll find more often than not, you may not have to look any further.
Local yard and garage sales can be a good place to look. Always get a demo of the machine if you find one.
Heading to forums catering to power tool users is another great place to look. These forums are used by members in all sorts of professions pertaining to power tools and chainsaw users will be there in large numbers. You may not find the machine within the forum but the value here is the referrals you'll get.
Online site auctions are another alternative. Austions conducted on eBay or elsewhere can present some good opportunities. Reconditioned machines can be bought at very attractive prices.
Just be sure when buying used chainsaws online you are happy the source is reliable. eBay provides seller ratings which are useful.
