Looking for sad love poems after a breakup or divorce? Try not to. If there's one bit of advice that recently broken up couples need, it is to focus on looking ahead, not in the past and not in the current mess of sadness, hurt, anger, betrayal and so forth.

Yes, you are feeling down but reading sad love poems is only going to get you more down, not uplift you in any way. Of course, some of the greatest poetry and literature in the world is about broken hearts, but that does not mean someone is going to come along and turn your life into a fairytale. You need to start pulling yourself out of the sadness and moving onwards and upwards.

The same goes for sad, love songs: you put one on and before you know it you're sobbing uncontrollably. While you're in the mourning or grieving period, that's fine. But the idea is to stop indulging yourself and your depression after a while.

If you are looking for the best quality of love poems then it is a good idea to go down to your nearest bookstore and find a short anthology of the greats (Keats, Shakespeare, Neruda, Seth, Young and so on). Sometimes there is nothing better than curling up on the sofa with a mug of tea and a good book of sad love poems, especially if you enjoy reading poetry.

You should try to follow up a session like that with something more physically and mentally invigorating, like going out with friends or attending a concert of some sort and so on. Do not let your day end on an extremely sad note.

Feel free to write as much poetry about your love's sad ending as you want. This is a creative process and almost always helps you grow and develop as a person. Just don't inflict it on others too much and try to keep it private, especially if you are not a published, professional poet because most people find a situation like that extremely trying.

And if you are trying to win back someone you lost, then sad love poems are definitely not the way to go. You can use the poetry as a release for all your emotions of sorrow, hurt and anger, but what you want to really show your ex is that you are moving on and doing fine without them, which is the first trick to piquing their curiosity and eventually winning them back.

In this regard, writing sad love poems can be really useful to help you deal with your situation and emotions in a positive and constructive way, leaving you free to implement more of the techniques and tips widely recognized to be key in making up with an ex that you might still want back in your life.

If you do still want your ex back in your life, you may want to consider a simple, down to earth, step by step plan authored by T 'Dub' Jackson called "The Magic of Making Up." It's far better reading than sad love poems and it works like magic if you really want to get back together with your ex.
