Love—a single word yet filled with myriad emotions. All of us would go the extra mile if only to find one true love. Yet it is not as easy as it sounds. And the first step is also the hardest.

Most find it hard to even give dating a chance, especially if you are being set up on a blind date by a friend. Yet for the more serious type, dating is something of a prerequisite to finding the love of their life—disappointing your date on the first time would mean that this is the end of the road for the two of you. It could also be the other way around. If your date bored you the first time, then there is no reason for you to get in touch with this person again. First impression is always important. This is why some of us would do everything to impress our date—a "make or break' tactic.

Don't act too smart when on a date (but do not act dumb, either). To know the 'aperitif' is one thing, but being a wine connoisseur is another. Overdoing something would really cause more harm than good. Remember, you are dating because you are looking for that special someone. And while first impressions are key, it is what you do during the date itself that will determine whether the two of you will see each other again.

Simply put, you just have to be yourself. There's no harm in doing that. You may impress your date even more because as you are at ease, he or she can sense that you are really sincere and not just there to impress somebody. Pretending to be something that you are not is a big no-no. You can only lie so many times—but can you do that for the rest of your life or at least for the months that you are dating somebody? Dating in itself is a cumbersome task. Don't make it any harder.

Have you ever been on a date when all you had to do was listen to all the boring stuff that your date was saying? While it feels great to let someone know more about yourself and your accomplishments, it is also good to know more about your date. Remember that dating is a two-way process. You are not supposed to do the talking all by yourself. You have to listen to what your date has to say and by doing so, you make him or her feel that you are really interested.

Yes, sincerity is a major key. But you can always put some humor into it. Humor keeps any conversation light and interesting, no to mention that it's always a plus factor if you can make your date smile every once in a while.

Chasing love brings excitement to our hearts. It is magical. It's like being a teenager falling in love for the first time. But whether we will feel this exhilaration or not would depend on how our dates go on.
