When we were children, most all of us had our favorite "cuddly" thing that we took with us wherever we went (if mom would let us).

Some of us packed a blanket around, others took their teddy bear, while still others of us didn't go anywhere without our favorite pillow.

But guess what, it's not just kids that do this; adults do it too!

We all tend to love certain soft objects, but the question is why?

I have noticed many children that haul a special stuffed animal around with them everywhere they go. It may be because it has become a companion or a playmate, and of course they can't go anywhere without their friends.

Then comes the "security" blanket question -- that answer is simple -- many children attach to a certain blanket or pillow because is smells like their mother or it feels like a piece of clothing their mother wore when they were younger.

No matter what anyone says -- something that reminds us of mother IS very comforting! That is especially so when a child is away from their mother a lot.

I knew a little girl that would drag her mother's nightgown around the house! It smelled like mom and it was what her mom wore when that little girl was an infant. But...she's in school now and she grew out of that one :)

Interesting...even adults keep soft things around for the same reasons children do. Comfort and reassurance -- although in adults the baby blanket isn't going to cut it.

So, we find that adults will often keep plush blankets on their beds to keep them warm at night, or maybe it helps them feel more secure.

Some have a special pillow -- small or large -- that they just have to have whenever they decide to take it easy.

These just seem to add that extra touch that helps us out through life.

There are several of my grown friends that enjoy the Wamsutta plush throw blankets and they swear by them. These plush blankets are super soft and even I have to be careful or I get hooked real easy!

Have you noticed that there are many adult teddy bear collectors! These stuffed animals usually aren't meant to be slept with, well most of them aren't. Some people collect them just for the fun of it.

But, we still find some adults that like to sleep with their teddy bears. Each to their own -- right!

Even dogs take a shine to soft things too. Many dogs have their own special bed, or a pillow that they love to sit or lay on.

The size of the bed or pillow really doesn't matter. Sometimes you will find a huge pillow with a tiny dog nestled somewhere in the middle and other times the dog is so massive it's 3 times the size of the pillow. But no matter the size they like what is comforting to them.

The reasons we have an attachment to soft things are many. It just seems like everyone has it in their nature to a more or less degree.

Sometimes it could be a psychological reason -- a need for comfort, or maybe it's just nice to have something to cuddle when you live all alone.

But, whatever the reason - make sure if you notice someone has a special soft something - don't deprive them of it - they need it - and you probably do too!
