The first time I ever used GPS was a couple of years ago. We were in Boise, Idaho attending a wedding. The rental car came with GPS at no extra charge.

My son did most of the driving, and since this was our first visit to Boise, that little devise was pretty neat. Along with the map display, we heard the female voice instruct as to which direction we were supposed to turn and how far ahead the turn would be. I jokingly told my son that if I ever got a GPS, I would get one with a British female voice, so I could feel like James Bond.

Being in an unfamiliar area, the GPS was very handy. I don't have one in my car back home, because I really don't see a need for it. Although, perhaps the times I needed to go to a part of town that I was not familiar with it would have come in handy. I have also heard that one of the latest features on GPS is to notify you of upcoming traffic problems.

But the main purpose of having a GPS device in your car is to help you get where you are going. In Idaho, if we hadn't had it, I am sure we would have spent extra time trying to figure out how to get to different places. We would have wasted time just "spinning our wheels" as the saying goes.

In life, many times people are spinning their wheels. They are uncertain about the future and how to get where they desire to go. They have an idea of where they want their lives to be, but many times have a difficult time getting there.

Why not use God's GPS?

The Bible talks about God directing our steps. Is that just a nice sounding phrase? Or, is it indeed a promise from the Almighty? Can God really direct your steps? Can He really light your path?

Yes, He can. But first, we need to make sure we are on a path. In other words, if you are just sitting on the side of the road, there is no need to lighten your path or to direct you steps. You first need to get up and get moving.

The reason people sit on the side of the road is that they are afraid of moving. They are afraid of making a mistake; afraid of making a wrong turn; afraid of taking the wrong road.

It is indeed hard to not be afraid when you are simply trusting in yourself, your own abilities and resources. But you can toss the fear out and start putting your trust in God. He is the One Who promised that He would direct your steps. When we have confidence and trust that He will do exactly that, then we can release our fears and trust Him.

Exactly how will He direct your steps? Once we really believe that He will, and we are moving forward, we need to ask. Then, we need to listen and expect an answer.

Back in Idaho, if we would have ignored the GPS and had the radio turned up loud, we would have missed the directions that were given. In effect, turning on the device was asking. Paying attention to it was listening. We were expecting directions.

As we proceed in life on our journey, we move ahead without fear, doing the best that we can at the moment. And, at the same time, we have God's GPS turned on. We get into the habit of asking. We also need to get into the habit of listening for His answer until we get it.

And just how will that answer come? Will it be an audible voice? Will it be a visible sign? That is His prerogative.

He promised that He would direct our steps. Our job is to believe that He will, ask Him, and then look for and expect an answer. And, if we don't hear an answer, then we just keep moving forward the best that we know how, listening and expecting until we do.

In addition to promising to direct our steps and light our path, He has also promised to give wisdom liberally to those who ask Him. There are many who may cry out, "God help me! I don't know what to do!" But there are few who stay tuned in long enough to receive the answer.

So keep your Godly GPS turned on, even in areas that you are familiar with. There could be a traffic jam ahead. Get in the habit of staying tuned to Him all day long. The Bible says that He is at work within you.

The next time you think of GPS, think of God's Personal Solution!

I am amazed that even today, many people believe that African religions are all about silly superstitions and myths that cannot be validated. Slowly, we are beginning to understand many of the concepts of African religions through the science of quantum physics.

The term evangelical Christian and I share a love/hate relationship. On the one hand, I believe in the good news of Jesus' death and resurrection and desire to share the implications of this news with others. The problem is that for most people in America, the term evangelical Christian is loaded with political undertones...

  • Spiritual Energy (Yamaya Cruz)
n dummy terms, chakras actually create fuel within the body, much like a solar panel takes sunlight and converts it into electricity. This is the body's natural way of recharging itself. Unfortunately, over the years people have become heavily dependent on fuel. And I don't just mean gasoline. We have forgotten how to recharge our own batteries.

This 12-hour ritual cleanses my soul and I feel transformed, fresh and pure, ready to start a new segment in my life. Maha Shivaratri, the "Night of Shiva" is a powerful experience and gives me a taste of the India that I miss living here in the US.

The Old and New Testaments contain 66 books--but how do we know that they are the "right" books? How did we come to get the books of the Bible? The way in which canon or official texts were identified is crucial to understanding and appreciating the authority of Scripture.

  • Getting Back To Our Nature (Yamaya Cruz)
People are not allowed to freely express themselves. Instead, they are being reared like a pet. They are rewarded for good behavior and scorned for bad. People can't embody the natural element of fire, because anger and jealousy is bad. People can't show sadness, the element of water, because sadness is a sign of vulnerability. People can't be too loving and giving, the element of earth, because it is a sign of weakness.
