Dresses remain a popular and trendy fashion item for many women of all ages, and it is perhaps because these can be worn on any occasion, whether to work, partying, shopping, and even weddings! It is unlikely that maxi dresses will ever fall out of fashion due to the sheer versatility of the dress, and they appear great no matter what the occasion. These dresses were a huge hit in the 70's, and have quickly come back into fashion across the globe.

When choosing a maxi dress, particularly for a wedding event or function, it is important to find one which suits both your style, and that of the wedding. For example, black maxi dresses are quite common in retail stores, however they aren't perhaps the best colour to wear to a wedding. Another colour you should avoid is white or ivory, as you could be mistaken for the bride or one of the bridesmaids.

As most weddings are held during the summer, there are a lot of fashionable trends, and maxi dresses can usually be found in many floral summer patterns which are fantastic for weddings. You could also be able to find some plain maxi dresses with vibrant coloured blocks, which really match the summers day.

Once you have decided on the colour and design of maxi dress you want to purchase, the next decision should be the fabric material it is made from. Maxi dresses are available in a wide range of materials, however for weddings silk or satin would be an excellent choice.

The maxi dress can also be found in a few styles, such as thin or thick straps, strapless or halter neck. You will want to consider which type to wear dependent upon where you are going, strapless ones may not be ideal for a wedding, especially if the ceremony is to be held in a church, and they can occasionally appear to be more casual. The strapless maxi dress is more ideal for days at the beach or when on holiday, and can be used to cover up in the sun and easy to take off and on over your swimsuit or bikini.

The maxi dress can be used at any time of the year, of course more people associate it with the warmer months, combined with flip flops or gladiator sandals. However during the cooler autumnal or winter months, they can be teamed with long boots and a co-ordinating jacket or cardigan. You can also find that many designers of the maxi dress have a shorter version in the same style and pattern. If you really like the design etc, you could buy it in both lengths, and dress the shorter one up with high heels for a night out.

The maxi dress can suit any woman, although it may be best to try a few on before making any purchases. If you are shorter, you may need to choose a plain coloured dress that has a bold block of colour upon it, as a dress that has too much going on, in the way of flowers and patterns could make you look shorter.

If you are looking for the perfect maxi dresses why not have a girly shopping day out, and visit the high street and try them on, or search the internet.
