You will find that many home users will want to have a computer for carrying out their shopping on the internet, to socialise with friends and family, and also to find information quickly and easily. Younger users will realistically utilise computers for speaking with friends from school, doing their homework, and even playing computer games with people around the world.

However, most computers today do not come with a full working version of Microsoft Office, and as such, should you need to produce some documents for work the next day, or if your child needs to complete their homework, you could find you can't because of this. Most people would then look to purchase a working copy of Microsoft Office, however this can be quite expensive, particularly if it is only going to be used a few times per year.

Thankfully, there is an alternative, which is completely free!

Open Office is a free, open source software program which provides much of the same benefits of Microsoft Office, without the price tag. The software has been developed over the past 20 years, and has been created to provide a full office experience for everyone around the world. You will find a range of different programs in open office, which are as follows:

- Base - This program is very similar to Microsoft Access, allowing you to create new databases, manage them and export them. Most popular database formats are supported.

- Draw - This great piece of software allows you to create very quick, and very simple diagrams which you can use for presentations.

- Writer - Very similar to Microsoft Word, Writer is a full featured word processing software program. It has most of the features you would come to expect from such a program, and is very easy to use.

- Calc - Create spreadsheets and analyse any data using Calc. You can import and export Microsoft Excel documentation, and it also supports all major spreadsheet file types.

- Impress - Open Office's answer to power point is Impress. Create multimedia presentations, slide-shows and other documents to use for clients or business meetings.

- Math - If you are looking to work with mathematical equations, Math is a brilliant piece of software.

Open Office features a wide range of programs, and they are always expanding on their software with new updates regularly, which has helped their software to become the most used open source office system to date.

If you require the functionalities of Microsoft Office, but cannot afford to purchase the software, then you should definitely go to the open office download page and install their package. Even if it is only to test out the software to see if it meets your requirements, you will be pleasantly surprised by what it has got to offer, and you may even prefer it.

Should you have any problems when using Open Office, their website features a great range of helpful guides and tutorials too, which can help you get started and overcome any obstacles.

Open Office has fast become the most used open source processing platform. Find out why by visiting to the open office download site today!
