For many women, the jewelry that they wear can be like an extension of their personality and some actually feel naked if they have not got on their watch, rings or earrings. For everyday living these items can be understated and may have to be for their work. However when going out for a special occasion or just for a romantic evening the jewelry can be changed.

Having beautiful jewelry can make any woman feel more exquisite and also give a boost of confidence to them too. Obviously getting jewelry as a gift can make it even more special. Typically the best item has got to include a diamond or even a pearl. Although diamonds have always had the most purchases, pearls are becoming increasingly popular, especially when it comes to pearl pendants

Pearls come from shelled mollusc's, such as the oyster, they are produced within the soft tissues and are formed with many layers of a crystalline compound. They can come in many different colours and also size.

It is hard these days to find pearls that have grown naturally; so many that we see on jewelry today are actually cultured or farmed. There are places that the general public can go and pick out their own oysters to see what type of pearl they will get from it. You may even be lucky and get the "twins", which is quite rare to find two pearls in one oyster. Once your oyster is open and you have the pearl, you may have the option to have it put into a setting for either a necklace, or in the case of twins for pearl earrings

Many people think that pearls are just round in shape, however slight adjustments in the layering actually produces different shapes, and typically there are eight of them when it comes to pearls. These are:

• Round - The rarest type and makes it the most valuable
• Semi Round - Not quite round, but they can be set into jewelry so that it looks as if it is round
• Button - Has a flatter appearance, but again can be set into jewelry, like earrings to make it look like a round shape
• Drop - Mainly used for pendants and earrings
• Pear - Same as the drop shape pearl, and can be called a tear drop
• Oval - Can be made to look like a round pearl
• Baroque - These are the pearls that have irregular shaping to them, but can be very unique
• Circled - The pearls have visible rings or ridges around it.

Whatever shape pearl you may choose or receive as a gift, they are truly stunning and definitely add an air of elegance to any person wearing them.

Pearls have not just been used for jewelry though. They had been used to sew onto clothing to add a touch of class and a different dimension to a dress. They have also been used in cosmetics, medicines and oddly in some types of paints. The pearls would have been crushed and mixed with other components in order to produce the desired item.

If you are hoping to get a pearl pendants or pearl earrings that you either buy yourself or recieve as a gift, you should take a look at pearlotica.com or leave hints for others to see!
