It can be very frustrating for women to be all dressed up, hair done nice and make-up on, to look out of the window and see that it is raining. All that effort to look great could be washed away as soon as we step out of the door. Of course umbrellas can help to keep some of the rain off, but on occasions it is too windy to use one. This is where getting a stylish raincoat can come in handy.

A couple of centuries ago, women would wear raincoats that were very hard to carry, and were also bulky and not very attractive. The raincoats would be treated with a rubberised solution to make them waterproof, although they did the job of keeping the rain off their elegant dresses making sure they were clean and dry, they were not very fashionable.

Many of the raincoats for women that we see today though are very different, which is good news. As time has gone on different materials have been developed to provide a coat that is waterproof, and also one that looks much nicer on, and also less heavy to wear.

The most popular type of material for raincoats today is microfiber, it is actually a fine polyester compound that not only makes the fabric lightweight but also waterproof. This compound can also be used in many household furnishings like bedding, curtains and even sofas; to help make it easier to clean up should anything be spilt upon them.

Women's raincoats can come in many different styles, colours and lengths. The most popular of all raincoats has got to be the trench, however they can sometimes look to manly and that is why designers have come up with varying options to make sure that they suit all women.

The most popular style at the moment is the flared, double breasted raincoat. Typically they come to the mid thigh length, and start to flare out from the waist, with a large belt. These are very flattering to a women's figure and also ideal for those women that are shorter.

You can also find that the longer style trench coats have had a modern twist put upon them, with the use of coloured piping to the cuffs and edges, to large belts, and also in the many colours and patterns that are upon them. Of course if you did not want to go for such a long coat, there are many trendy shorter lengths which will also adopt this. A popular colour this season is the yellow raincoat in a range of shades, going from the bold lemon down to a darker mustard type shade.

Raincoats can be used for any occasion too, you may have a stylish one for when you are going out for an evening, and then a less cheaper one for when going out in the day or walking the dog. The styling will also be different for the various uses too. There are ones that are reversible, that can be waterproof on both sides with different patterns and colours, to ones that have the raincoat on one side and a fleece material on the other. This can keep you very warm and dry, and if it stops raining whilst you are out, you can turn it inside out and have the fleece showing.

Raincoats for women can come in many different lengths, styles, and colours and the most popular colour this season is the yellow raincoat If you are wanting to see the different options that are available, have a look at raincoats-for-women.com
