Weddings are traditionally a religious ceremony between two people who are forming a union; reforms to the law and attitudes regarding marriage has seen a number of important changes in recent years. The ceremony is an occasion to perform a traditional ritual and celebrate with friends and family. The marriage certificate must be signed at the end of the service for the law to legitimize the couple's relationship. A woman taking part in the ceremony is called a bride, a man called a bridegroom; once they are married they known as the wife and husband.

Church Ceremonies

There are many factors that can affect a wedding tradition and those of religion, race and social class for example, can make it very complex. To date, the traditional Church ceremony is still the most popular service. These ceremonies are usually referred to as white weddings and are considered formal or semi-formal in the United Kingdom, Ireland and United States, as well as some other Commonwealth countries.

Multiple Ceremonies

Double marriages are quite rare as they usually entail getting two couples to marry at the same time and same place; typically, a person with a brother or sister might plan this type of event with that sibling.

Weddings in a Foreign Country

A destination wedding is where the engaged couple and their guests travel to attend the ceremony. Destination weddings are usually take place in foreign and exotic destinations. Which sometimes makes the wedding to be easily themed; for example, a Hawaiian wedding, allows the couple to enjoy the wedding in a warm surrounding, and have their honeymoon there too.

Weddings over a Weekend

Weekend weddings are becoming increasingly popular. In Ireland they take place over the course of a three day weekend. Special activities, such as spa treatments and golf tournaments, are scheduled into the itinerary for guests' enjoyment throughout the weekend. Lodging is usually at the same facility and couples often host a Sunday brunch for the weekend's finale.

Internet Weddings

Something quite new to the wedding category is Internet Weddings. Although it has not really caught on yet, a few intrepid people have decided to tie the knot online. It may take some time for this to popularize, but results show this is on the increase too. There are already a number of companies based online can help you find out more information about his unusual type of ceremony. Marriages that are broadcast live online are also referred to as online weddings.

Town Hall Marriages

Local civil authority services are referred to as civil weddings, as they do not take place in a church. They are executed by a locally an appointed official. Civil ceremonies may use references to God, but they do not generally make references to particular religions or denominations. These services are brief and concise because they are a legal procedure. Couples usually opt for this style of weddings not only for legality reasons, but also because these styles of wedding usually require the minimum fuss, time, and money.

We hope this has helped with your understanding of the types of weddings as well as the various settings they can take place in. Regardless of the venue, a wedding is a momentous occasion that should be enjoyed thoroughly!
