If you experience frequent heartburn you may well have begun researching which foods help with the symptoms and have come across a large list of suspects.
You might well be forgiven for believing that life with acid reflux will be a little boring, certainly as far as food is concerned.
Read up on acid reflux in any magazine or newspaper and all they seem to be telling you is to cut out all your favorite snacks, meals and drinks, eat boring, low calorie, low fat foods with no taste and at all costs…..do not drink alcohol or caffeine.
GERD - Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease, call it what you will, is definitely going to disrupt your life. That is without doubt.
Constant acid reflux and heartburn wears you out, is tiresome and just plain unpleasant. You begin to think that you are willing to try anything to stop it.
But….before you stop eating all your favorite things, do two things. Change your lifestyle Do some research

Most of us, if we're honest have some bad habits that we have developed thoughout our lives and some of them are bad habits that will aggravate heartburn.
Why do you think that acid reflux disease is prevalent in people over forty? We have had more time to perfect our bad habits.
Eat too quickly? - try slowing down - You will improve your digestion and probably eat less into the bargain, both will help with heartburn. Eat too much? - eating smaller meals and eating more frequently is better than overeating Drink a lot? - Alcoholic drinks relax the muscle at the base of the esophagus and causes heartburn and acid reflux. Do you eat late in the evening? - Try not to eat within three hours of going to bed. It will help with heartburn and also help control your weight. Are you overweight - Diet. Carrying extra weight is a major cause of acid reflux disease as extra fat stored around your internal organs puts additional pressure on your stomach, and it does the same to your heart!! Love junk food? That was not a command. If so, just try to eat it less often. Fresh is best where heartburn is concerned.
Do Your Research?
When you first read the huge list of foods to avoid for heartburn you might well panic. Don't. It is only a list of suspects that may cause heartburn or acid reflux. Simply because it's on a list it does not mean that you mustn't eat it.
Keep a heartburn diary! Each time that you get acid reflux, write down what you had to eat before it started. It's also worth noting what you were doing just before you got acid indigestion. Lie down shortly after eating and no matter what you have eaten you will get heartburn. Bend over and compress your stomach - and you will get acid indigestion. Exercise too soon after eating - and you develop acid indigestion.
