Delkim have been at the forefront of the bite alarm industry since the 1970's, first converting the famous Optonic and Heron indicators and then the design, development and commercial production of their own Delkim bite alarms which are now the market leaders in bite alarm technology.
Delkim the company was formed by two well known Kent carp anglers and bait developers named Del Romang and Kim Donaldson, after converting many friend's bite alarms they decided to form a company and decided to bring their names together to create the name, Delkim. Their first conversions were adding telephone GPO speakers and LEDs to the Heron bite indicators, these were spotted on some high profile circuit carp waters such as the famous Darenth complex and soon many anglers were commissioning Del and Kim to convert their alarms too.
In the early 1980s the Optonic bite alarm was produced by Efgeeco. This alarm really was a revolution in many carp angler's eyes because of the line roller mechanism which increased sensitivity without the need to keep re-setting the indicator, it could also detect drop backs and made false bites a thing of the past and soon the Optonics became very popular with carp anglers and specimen hunters alike, the only problem with the Optonics were that they very quiet for night fishing and did not wake some heavy sleepers. Del and Kim were quick to pick up on this and began to convert the Optonics with large GPO speakers and these conversions became the only indicator to own on most carp lakes. In 1986 due to legal issues Delkim stopped converting Optonics and Del and Kim went their own separate ways but many can still been seen on many banks today.
In 1983 Del came up with the vibration sensing idea during a dream, he ran downstairs apparently naked and pulled a piece of monofilament across a record stylus and had that Eureka moment. After many years of development and patent issues the Delkim bite alarm as we know it today was born. The design was a unique patented Piezo vibration sensor where the line runs over a 'V' shaped line guide that detects any slight movement and conducts a small electrical voltage, the digital technology transmits this into an audible sound and the flashing of an LED. The Delkim could detect line movement like no other indicator and became the most reliable and popular in the market with the capability of detecting rod tip knocks and vibrations from the smallest movement at the terminal tackle end which is especially useful when fishing close to underwater snags and without doubt results in more bites indicated and more fish on the bank.
The Delkim range has progressed over the years and with new modern digital technology the bite alarms can incorporate remote digital sounder boxes and electronic flashing night lights which are powered by the bite indicator. The Delkim bite indicator is now part of many angler's set up and you will see them on lakes up a down the country and abroad and have no doubt contributed to many thousands of fish on the bank and cheesy grins behind flashing cameras.
