If you are the kind of person who worries about things thatare unlikely to take place or you often feel anxious, tense or worried all day when there really is absolutely no reason to, then you are showing a few of the symptoms of GAD.

Everyone has worries, fears and concerns about parts of our day to day lives but if your anxiety is constant enough to get in the way of your life, stopping you from relaxing and preventing you from carrying on normally then you may have developed GAD.

GAD is a fairly common problem that affects millions of people throughout the world. It tends to manifest itself as constant, chronic worrying or anxiety, general tension and nervousness with sufferers finding it very hard to switch off and relax.

When you are suffering from generalized anxiety disorder your anxiety is not related to a particular thing, event or occasion. You will feel anxious nearly all the time and your anxiety will influence every part of your life. The feeling is ,however, no where near as intense as, for example, someone experiencing a panic attack but is a long lasting feeling of general anxiety that makes a normal life impossible.

The condition is both physically and emotionally debilitating, it saps your energy, destroying any sense of feeling good and generally wears you down. You will find yourself worrying about the same things as other people such as family, health, work and money but your worrying will be much worse, exaggerated out of all proportion.

Your worries willbe constantly repeating inside your mind, you won't be able to switch them off.

Anyone who suffers from GAD will go through their days in a constant state of worry, imagining the worst possible outcome for every situation even when there are no grounds for their anxieties.

Being worried or concerned about things is a perfectly normal aspect of our lives but it is when worry gets out of control and begins to get in the way of our normal life that it becomes a problem. Excessive anxiety and worrying, irrational and intrusive thoughts that keep appearing in your head are symptoms of Generalized Anxiety. The anxiety can take over your life stopping you from finding a solution.

The symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder can be different from hour to hour and day to day. You might have bad days and good days, you might discover that your worrying is worse first thing while others may find that last thing at night is the worst time their worries.
