Today the Fylde region draws visitors from all over the world and all corners of the UK as the nation's premier holiday resort region. Millions of pounds have been invested into the tourist industry with a full range of facilities, easy access and transport and accommodation to suit every traveller and holiday-maker.

Every conceivable form of great entertainment is available in the region with numerous theatres, cinemas, shows and events to suit all tastes and types of tourist.

The region of the Fylde is great for excursions away from the bright lights and bustle of the big resorts like Blackpool, and includes some areas of outstanding natural beauty.

The sands and beaches are great to the south of the Fylde around the famous golfing towns of Lytham and Lytham Annes, while in the North, there are magnificent views of the Lake District mountain peaks from across Morecambe Bay.

When holidaying in the Fylde the visitor should try to make an early morning excursion to the fishing town of Fleetwood to see the night's catch landed from fishing grounds as far away as Iceland. This pretty town has excellent sandy beaches, colourful gardens and a pool for model yachts. EvenMore importantly Fleetwood has excellent views over the Wyre Estuary to the distant peaks of the Cumbrian Mountains and the Lake District beyond. . The years between the wars saw Blackpool develop as it had not done since the heady days of the 1890's. Blackpool Corporation poured huge sums of cash into a programme of expansion of the seafront, pushing the front out into the sea from the boundaries with Cleveleys in the North to St Annes in the South.

Besides improving the sea Front the Corporation tried to spread the load of visitors who now were arriving in their many thousands throughout the town by laying out a park on the Eastern edge of the Borough. A prominent feature of the new Stanley Park opened in 1925/26 was the William H Cocker clock tower, a tribute to one of the founding fathers of the town. To entice visitors away from the Promenade the Corporation provided a special bus service. The vehicles used were a special combination of bus and tram making the journey West along Hornby Road quite an attraction in itself
