A distinct advantage to the harmonica is its size. It is also easy to learn to play. The harmonica does not need electricity like the electronic piano or the electronic keyboard and so can be played anywhere. This makes it a very popular instrument. The information contained in this article comes from well informed experts who are professional harmonica players.

It is also very affordable. You can purchase a harmonica for as little as a few dollars or you can pay a few hundred dollars. This instrument is also incredibly versatile. It is played by all manner of artists, especially country and folk singers.

It has other benefits as well. Children love the harmonica, and it can be used when telling stories. It is advantageous for children to learn the harmonica at a young age.

When learning to play the harmonica, it is good to know that no advanced skills are needed. There is no tuning involved as there is with a guitar. Simply take it out of the box and start playing. The key is always correct. It is easy to practice at any time of the day or night and there is no need to worry about the neighbours in the way that electric guitarists and drummers who practice at home have to do.

Like all people who are learning to play a musical instrument, there are amateurs and there are professionals. However, if you decide you just want to play at home for pleasure and to entertain the kids, you can. Alternatively, you can become professional. Either way, the harmonica will bring you years of enjoyment.

There are three basic choices with your harmonica, the diatonic and the chromatic are two. The diatonic can play only in one key and the chromatic plays all keys. The third choice is a standard, ten hole harmonica and is relatively inexpensive.

When you start to practice the harmonica try to blow one note. You can either 'pucker' or you can use the 'tongue block'. One method is similar to blowing through a straw and the other blows through three holes and uses the tongue to block out the other notes.

The internet offers a number of tablatures or 'tabs', which is playing music without having to read the music. There is also the opportunity to buy lessons online where you only have to pay annually and they come with instruction booklets.
