Relationships can complicated, problematic and wonderful. Especially the relationship we have with ourselves. The relationship we have with ourselves, how we feel and think about who we are and what we do, is a major cause of sexual difficulties, especially ED.

If we believe the ads for the little blue pills, you'd think they're magic and can "cure" every type of ED out there.

No so fast! The reality is, those little blue pills only work when the underlying issue causing ED is physical or medical. They aren't effective when the ED issues center around the relationships.

The other news is...it's always about the relationship. Especially the relationship you have with yourself.

Even if you weren't having some troubles with your relationship with yourself before you started having troubles with ED, you're more likely to have them now.

ED puts an enormous amount of pressure on both men and their partners. That pressure gets tied up in feelings, expectations, and issues that you might not have anticipated.

Whether it's fear of not getting it up this time, not keeping it up long enough, or wanting to avoid the situation all together to avoid having to face your worst fears, ED can shut down even the most determined man. Even if, especially with the most common types of erectile problems: those caused by transitory, temporary reactions to current thoughts, ill health and daily pressures of life.

Nonetheless, any hint of possible ED has been known to send men right into self doubt and unrest. The most common reactions to possible ED include:

Depression

While it is common to grieve over losses of opportunities, experiences, or loved ones, many men hold on to them so tight for so long they slip past grief, regrets and frustrations right into depression without even realizing it.

The problem is, depression makes possible ED worse, it decreases your libido, or sexual desire, and the meds for depression make ED worser not better.

And, depression will not go away by itself, no matter how much you believe it can, or want it to.

If this is you, time to get some professional help. Many therapists can be very helpful, even without medications.

Triggering old memories

It's not uncommon to reawaken feelings about past difficulties when you are currently having trouble. Especially with ED. Often troubles of a sexual nature that may have happened a long time ago.

If this is you, be sure to seek professional help or join a support group. While it is impossible to go back and change what happened, or even get the person who hurt you accept responsibility for what he did, you don't have to continue letting this stop you from disengaging from what happened to you.

Just remember, this happened to you. It is not who you are.

Stressing Out and Worrying Instead of Making Changes

Stress seems to be everywhere today. From a wide variety of issues and experiences.

Don't let your sense of responsibility trump your need for help or become another of your major stress points. It will just make things worse.

And, then it becomes a vicious cycle. The more stressed you are the more likely you are to have problems with erections. The more problems you have the more stressed you'll get.

Especially if you start relying on the what seems to be the usual antidote to stress: eating too much, drinking too much, lazing around, and taking up smoking.

Or, getting angry about every little thing and not addressing the big issue.

Time to get more information and take action.

Especially is the name of your stressor is ED.
