Whenever you think of designer bathrooms you may picture some very radical or even "way out" design that you have seen in some magazine or on the television. Yet the word "designer" doesn't have to mean something that's on the cutting-edge or sometimes beyond it. Did you know that some people are choosing those traditional claw foot bathtubs as part of their approach to being a designer? They say that everything goes around in circles and if you wait long enough something will come back into fashion. That seems to be invariably what's happening here, as we see modern-day versions of the 1950s classic reappear.

If you decide to create a designer look for your particular bathroom be careful to ensure that you don't go over the top in your quest to be different. This is something that should be a family decision by and large, most certainly if other members of the family use the specific bathroom in question. You have to take into consideration how easy or relatively difficult it might be for very young children or elderly relatives to access the various components that you intend to put in, as functionality is a very important consideration for this inherently functional room.

Everybody likes chic but it has its place. You can come up with a fabulous finished look but you don't have to be so avant-garde that you've sacrificed practicality. With an eye to the future you should also consider how a new home-owner or prospective purchaser would view your finished creation. Don't forget that the majority of people decide whether they are interested in a particular house based on two particular rooms - the kitchen and of course the bathroom.

Whilst bathrooms must always reflect individuality and personality and must be a place that you and your family enjoy, it's exciting to know that there are so many different options and choices available to you as you configure the area. Do you want to go for the minimalist look? If so, once again remember practicality. You have to include places for storage even if they are part of a subtle overall design. At the least you will need some kind of cupboard or cabinet to store towels, the relevant appliances and other accoutrements. If you have to go into another room every time you need to find something that should have been kept in the bathroom, this will get old very quickly. You don't want to have to spend additional time, effort and resources in reconfiguring your ultimate designer bathroom by not thinking this through correctly at the very beginning.

Remember that you can put a lot of effort into choosing light fixtures, mirror frames, cabinetry and so on but you do want to ensure that you get a very good quality bathroom suite at the end of the day. This is the primary focus after all. If your main priority is a shower rather than a bathtub, you might even want to consider the option of installing a spacious wet room, for that added feeling of freedom.
