Do you run your family as if it was a small business? Many experts advocate that you should do so, as there are many advantages associated. Goodness knows that there are lots of bills to pay on any monthly basis and there always seem to be a number of projects ongoing.

Is it really practical for a family unit to be compared to a business in the first place? We're not advocating that you should have such a rigid organisational structure that the very "core" of the family spirit is somehow lost, but when you match a certain amount of practicality with a loving relationship it's amazing what you can all achieve and how empowered you can be.

Most modern homes these days seem to have an office space somewhere or other, as an element of initial design. This may be in part to do with the fact that a growing number of people are choosing to become self-employed, may be telecommuting or otherwise working from home. It does reflect the fact that you have to focus on financial matters, contracts and other plans and provides a place to engage. Very often however households with growing families use a room originally designated as an office for other purposes, such as the children's room or a den. Why not consider integrating some of this functionality into your next kitchen redesign? Before you start thinking that these are two completely separate objectives and would never match, just think for a moment how much of that "administrative" work is actually done in kitchens already.

If you plan correctly you can make room for an office station in your kitchen. In truth, the kitchen is probably the most important room in the home and hopefully you have a large enough space to focus on. Now, so long as it is not situated right next to the area where you prepare your food or in a space where it would simply get in the way, allocate an area that has essentially a small desk and a simple, practical chair.

Here, you can position your laptop, a necessary area for filing and for pending work. Communication is so much easier these days and those times of the clunky desktop computer with that unnecessarily large tower have all but gone. The laptop or notebook computer of today is modern and will fit in with any kitchen interior design plan. This is also an area where you can erect a small pin board. Here you can keep important notes, have an interactive family calendar and other material that you need to refer to from time to time.

Just think how much organisational work goes on in the kitchen on a regular basis. You often see the kids doing their homework over in the corner, as well. If you set aside an area that's put there for a good reason, then you can make sure that the kitchen evolves into the functional gathering place that it is supposed to be.
