Most modern oven manufacturers produce a selection of gas, electric as well as something called a dual-fuel range, which is actually a combination of both gas and electricity.

Nobody could complain about the look of these. They look wonderful! Many of the modern ones come in stainless steel. This gives a very modern sophisticated look to the kitchen. Other models come in white or black, which works out to be a bit cheaper while retaining up to date features.

Gas or electric power - which way should one go?

If it's the price you're looking at, the electric ovens work out as the cheapest, followed by gas. The dual-fuel ranges are the most expensive. For your everyday cook, either the gas oven or electric oven are excellent choices.

Most ovens nowadaysare 30 inches wide and as this is a standard size, there really should be no problem fitting your oven into a pre-existing space.

Gas power!

The temperature of gas ovens aren't always very accurate. Most times this really isn't a problem. It could be better to just endure the slight inaccuracies of a gas oven and enjoy all theadvantages of having gas burners on top.

Electric power!

Electric ovens can produce very accurate temperatures but there's a small disadvantage. Food does tend to dry out faster in an electric oven. This is because electric heat, as opposed to gas heat, is dry. To remedy this, some manufacturers include Steam-Assist technology to prevent your meal from dehydrating. Also, some convection ovens include a probe which allows the oven to shut itself off when it reaches the predetermined temperature. Problem solved - meat can't end up being dry or over done! For the serious baker consider including a bread-proofing feature in your choice. This allows for very simple bread making - a definite plus!

Serious about cooking?

A dual-fuel range gives you the best of both gas and electric and it might be the answer to your dreams. All the burners on top are fired by gas, which is strongly recommended by all the top chefs. Your initial outlay for a dual-fuel range is a bit pricier as you need an electricity outlet, as well as gas hook-up. Also these ranges are generally wider than the standard range width of 30 inches. So you might consider this option when remodelling your kitchen.

Double ovens!

A double oven is great when the whole family come over during holiday times - it takes off some of the pressure of preparing meals!

What next?

All that's left is for you to buy your new oven and enjoy!
