Lift chairs can be a boon for those who suffer from mobility issues such as obesity, Lou Gehrig disease, arthritis etc. Typically, lift chairs resemble standard reclining chairs. However, with the ability to rise to comfortable positions, people can get out from the seat easily. With a multitude of fabrics and colors available as well as add-on features like massage and heat facilities, choosing the appropriate lift chair can be a tough experience. Here are some ways to select the best one for yourself.

Weight Capacity: Typical lift chairs have been designed for people of height 5 feet 4 inches to around 6 feet tall. Their weight should ideally be less than 375 pounds but there are larger sizes available as well, which are designed for those above 6 feet height and weighing more than 375 pounds. All these larger versions have a upper weight limit of 600 or 700 pounds.

Type of fabric: These days, lift chairs are made up of a variety of fabrics. Most are manufactured using cloth fabrics with additional padding for extra cushioning effect. The more expensive models are made using suede or leather as the upholstery of choice.

Battery backup: If the person using the lift chair is completely dependent on the lifting facility of the chair, if there is a power cut or outage, the person would be stuck inside the chair. This would happen unless there was a backup for the battery. If the chair has a backup option for the battery, the chair can function well even in the case of power outages.

Reclining positions: Most lift chairs are available in two or three different positions for reclining. Certain types come with an infinite number of reclining positions. Hence, the person using the chair can find the perfect reclining spot, which suits them. If the user wants to use the chair for sleeping, you might want to look for a chair, which has a reclining position in the lying-down state.

Warranty: You want to see the kind of warranty offered in the lift chair. Try looking for lift chairs which have parts and free repairs in the home types of warranties. The warranty should last for a considerable amount of time and certain manufacturers provide extended warranty as well.

Price: The relative prices of lift chairs vary and while the cheapest versions cost anywhere between 400 to 500 dollars, they do not have as many features as more expensive versions. The expensive luxury versions can cost between 600 to 800 dollars. The large size lift chairs having higher capacities of weight cost as much as 1000 dollars.

Luxuries: The very high-end versions of lift chairs have special features like massage and heat therapy etc. Certain models have refrigerators as well! While many different versions of lift chairs exist, selecting the perfect one as per your needs will help create a positive environment for the user.
