Music lesson studios are beginning to discover the amazing benefits of using iOS devices to enhance learning. Teachers are finding more and more resources in technology that are helping students with attention and enthusiasm.

What do you think of a music teacher using the iPad to help educate your child during music lessons?

The evolution of learning styles is fascinating. In ancient times, words were scratched into stone or tree bark, and now we are seeing a digital stage that is marking education as never seen before.

The speed, accessibility and ease of digital information has finally entered the music education world. And, we are ready for it.

Children are wired for this new age and educators are smart to take advantage. If you have been around a 5 year old in the past 6 months you no doubt have noticed that they can navigate an iPhone with greater speed than their 30-something parent.

Here is a new approach for music educators that will increase the enthusiasm in his/her lessons studio ten-fold:

For the purposes of this article, I will endorse the iOS platform (iPad/iPod/iPhone), but note that there could be possible similarities for other markets as well.

1. Do your homework. Get yourself an iPad and begin using it to find many of the wonderful education opportunities available. You will both find it exciting and mind boggling.

2. Keep track of who has the appropriate devices in your studio. It is not appropriate to ask a parent to purchase an iPad, but you'd be surprised at how many are inquisitive and take into consideration the purchase. Many homes already have iPod touches. These work as well.

3.Use the educational apps in your teaching studio as introduction to certain concepts. These apps can be used in one-on-one lessons as well as in small group classes. If you are a teacher in public school and have access to a smart-board then you are all set for large groups as well.

4. Regularly assign the parents who own the appropriate devices (many do) to purchase the apps that will enhance their child's learning. The days of using interact-less worksheets are gone.

5. Help the parent(s) be aware that you are focusing on solidifying a musical concept that can be enhanced and magnified by using the interactive tool you have suggested.

6. Point out the cost comparison of the app in question to a workbook you could possibly use in exchange. The parents will opt for the app every time. And the child will be delighted.

7. Use the apps for a carefully watched amount of time at the lesson. It is easy to be excited about new apps that you find, but remember to be equally inspiring about many portions of the time they spend in your studio.

Your students will be thrilled to find that you have assigned them to "play" a game each day for part of their music practice time. And you will find as much enjoyment out of the smooth transition your student makes into the next level.
