Let's face it; not many people would turn down an opportunity to go off road camping in Queensland, Australia, particularly if you have a chance to do so in an off road caravan. After all, it is possibly one of the best ways for you to get in touch with nature and be at one with the wild. Of course if you're heading into the wild with an off road caravan you're bound to enjoy some extremely memorable experiences although much of it will depend on the company you are in. Also, in order for you to make the most of off road camping, you'll need to make sure you plan your trip thoroughly or else you may end up discovering that you've left some essential items behind.

Camping permits

If you're heading out into the great outdoors with your off road caravan in Queensland, you'll need to determine whether or not permits are required in order for you to camp in certain places. Obviously, the best way to do this is to contact the various Parks where you intend staying. Fortunately, many Parks allow you to obtain permits online, and by visiting their websites you'll also be able to determine whether or not you do in fact need a permit. Interestingly enough, the Queensland EPA recommends that those who are interested in off road camping should book a camping area at least six weeks in advance.

Places to go

Once you hit the road, you'll immediately begin experiencing the true meaning of off road camping in Australia. It simply cannot be denied that Queensland has many fantastic off road camping spots, including some great beachfront locations such as Fraser Island, Bribie Island, and Double Island Point. The great thing about these camping spots is that not only do you get to enjoy an amazing off road experience, but of course you can swim in the sea just metres away from where you're camping. On the other hand, you could also choose some of the areas around the Jimna and Conondale Forests, the Sundown National Park and Stanthorpe, all of which will provide you with an opportunity to swim in one of the many waterholes which are fed by cascading waterfalls.

Preparation

In order to make the most of your camping experience, you need to make sure that you pack in all equipment you may need. In other words, you need to make sure that you have everything necessary for preparing meals, such as pots and pans, and of course various cooking utensils. Remember though, camping is not only about feeding yourself and as such, you had better not forget to include enough toiletries. Depending on your interpretation of off road camping, you may even want to consider taking a portable shower and toilet with you, unless of course these are already included in your off road camper or caravan. In fact, before you even begin packing, you should ideally try to determine what type of facilities are available at the various Parks where you intend camping.

Above all, you need to ensure that you take sufficient supplies with you in terms of food and beverages because, after all, you could find yourself in a situation where you are miles and miles away from the nearest shop. Of course, taking enough drinking water is also crucial, unless your camper or caravan contains some form of water treatment system. Oh, and don't forget to pack in some sunscreen and also some insect repellent, because let's face it; you certainly don't want to spend every evening being bitten by mosquitoes.

Lastly but not least; please make sure that when you leave the park you take all your rubbish away with you so as to preserve the natural beauty of the countryside.
