Many website owners are interested in search engine optimization as a tool to increase the success of their internet business, and today we are going to look at how you should view search engines like Google in the grand scheme of your business and your internet marketing efforts in order maximize your internet marketing success. While it is true that nearly all internet users are going to use a search engine in order to find something that they are looking for, many website owners place too much emphasis focusing on search engines and not enough time focusing on their readers and how to increase sales.

As nice as it might be to see your own website in Google for a keyword term related to your topic, it is important to remember that search engines don't buy things and it is only people who lead to sales and conversions. If you put too much emphasis and effort on things like the meta tags for your website, and not enough emphasis on your call to action and having your website visitors perform a certain desired action such as making a purchase or simply signing up for your email list, you will not be able to maximize your internet marketing success because you simply will not have your priorities correctly aligned.

Search engine optimization for the sake of itself does not have a very important place in your business, since the only reason you would want to have your own domain names and websites ranking high in the organic search engine results is to get interested readers over to your website and hopefully turn them into members or customers. There is absolutely no point in having a number one rank in the search engines for something that people are not searching for, other than reminding yourself that your website still exists. What you really want to have is a top ranking for something that lots of people are searching for, so that you can direct those people from the search engine to your website.

If you are only operating a personal blog for fun and you are interested in having it show up in the search engine results for some obscure keyword, than search engine optimization for the sake of itself might be appealing to you since you will be able to get a kick out of seeing your blog in Google and maybe showing it to your friends. But if you are a serious internet marketer with a profit-driven mindset who sees your website as a business, you need to see beyond Google and the other search engines so that you are focusing on the actions that people are going to take once they reach your website.
