If you are building an email list of targeted subscribers for the purpose of sending them offers related to the reason that they signed up for your list, you need to be careful that the offers that you are proposing to your subscribers are legitimate and ethical. This means that once a person enters their name and email address in your opt-in form, they are then sent a confirmation link that they must click on in order to verify their subscription to your list and begin receiving messages from you.

If you are a marketer that views the double opt-in as an unnecessary burden then maybe you need to re-evaluate your perspective regarding how to make money with email marketing. High quality subscribers to your list are more important than just having a large number subscribers, and nobody on your list is going to trust you enough to buy from you anyway unless they have expressed a desire to receive information based upon your topic.

There are a few popular marketing words such as the word "free" that can entice people and get them interested, however you need to pick the words you use in your emails carefully so that they are not sent to the spam folder. There is a fine line between trying to be persuasive and simply being a spammer, and you need to make the extra effort to be perceived as a legitimate marketer by including things like the double opt-in into your sign-up process. By taking the extra careful steps to make sure that you are perceived as an ethical marketer instead of a spammer, you will improve the results delivered by your email marketing efforts.
