Marriage proposals are endearing and at the same time risky. Aside from the possibility that people you may not hear a resounding "yes" as an answer, there is also the reality of dealing with the wrong engagement ring. Engagement rings can make or break a proposal. Whether we admit it or not, a lot of women value engagement rings as much as their wedding rings. An engagement ring will stay with you for a long time and it is only normal to want it to be the perfect match according to your size and preference.

One of the techniques that you can use to know a girl's preference on wedding rings is by window gazing. Although this act can completely blow off your surprise, you have to find a way to do it as if it's just one of your casual dates. Just ask her out and on your way home, find a route that will make you chance upon a jewelry store. If you are observant enough with your woman, you will notice instances when her eyes would momentarily stare at a particular ring.

You may ask leading questions if you like. Just make sure that you do not sound too prying or too obvious in your intentions. Start by making a short comment and let them lead you into the rest of the details. Make sure that you have a particular budget in mind so you will be able to note down the specifications of her dream engagement ring and at the same time, fit it with your own budget. On the other hand, if you and your partner have a planned engagement or at least do not like the idea of surprises, then by all means bring your girlfriend with you while shopping for an engagement ring.

You do not need to pretend like she does not know or even make the extra effort of hiding something from her. If you prefer to know exactly the right ring to buy, then spare the surprises and waiting by going to a jewelry shop with your girlfriend. This will also be an excellent way for you to agree upon some things that you can use for your upcoming wedding. Just the same, if you really are certain that you want your marriage proposal to be special and a grand surprise, you can also ask the help of some of your common friends or her family members.

Surely her sister or her best friend can help you know some of her preferences as well as her ring size. This is also an excellent idea to involve people who are close to her in one of the most special moments in your lives. If you cannot find anyone to consult to, there is always the last option of bringing in magazines related to engagement rings. A woman will be able to easily point out what she wants for an engagement ring while you read the same magazines. It is also important to be very observant and alert at this stage so as to know which engagement ring she is eyeing for.
