As regards nourishing night cream and many other skincare products, there is a lot of misleading and downright false information out there. That is why the average consumer has to be a bit savvy and wade through all the hype and decide what is best for her health, before spending a lot of money and wasting a lot of time.

First, there is so much hype now about natural and organic products that you really have to be careful. Let me give you an example. Once you see the list of ingredients and you are impressed with the aloe vera, shea butter, avocado extract and the chamomile and so on, you might think that you have found the perfect nourishing night cream.

But look at the list again. Have you noticed the first third of the ingredients on the list? Well, these are the ones that account for around 90% of what is actually in that product! That means that the rest of the ingredients, natural, organic and otherwise are all there in miniscule quantities. You can be sure that the last third on the list will only account for between 1% and 3%.

Another trick to watch out for is when they put 'derived from coconut oil' in brackets beside the actual ingredient. I am thinking here of the ingredients that usually end in DEA, MEA and TEA. Let us take Cocamide DEA which is great for getting foam in shampoos and facial cleansers too. It may have come from the coconut but nobody has mentioned the chemical processing of the actual ingredient and anything else that goes on to produce it. We know that a known carcinogen called DEA (diethanolamine) is added to it! This is where the terms an organic and natural can be totally misleading as we are not getting the full story.

So, in the nourishing night cream, I am going to demand that I get natural ingredients which have not been processed to death using doubtful chemicals. That is all I want!

But will I succeed in getting these? One guarantee is to look for the company which is signed up to The Campaign For Safe Cosmetics and which is committed to banning all suspicious chemicals which could be damaging for our health. This is the first step.

The second step is to look at some of the ingredients and to discover whether they are really skin friendly. Well, I found two that were really interesting. One is derived from a type of seaweed which is called wakame. This can act naturally on the levels of hyaluronidase which is a harmful agent that tends to reduce our hyaluronic acid which is so important for keeping skin smooth and supple. I also discovered another ingredient which is used in very few skin care products today, partly because it is so expensive. This is a nano form of the CoQ10 enzyme. This can get down to where they can zap the free radicals which inhibit new skin cell reduction and favour the growth of new cells.

As we can see, a really nourishing night cream contains some revolutionary ingredients but above all is free of any synthetic chemicals. Now that is really something to write home about!

Many skincare products never do what they claim. Why not discover some really effective ingredients in a nourishing night cream. Robert Winterson is passionate about natural skincare and has researched the best skin friendly ingredients on the market to-day. http://www.health-and-skin-care.com
