Many people think that all the fuss about why paraben free skincare is a must is totally exaggerated. But let us look at some facts and figures first about the skincare industry in general. Then, more specifically we will take a long hard look at parabens and why you should give them a wide berth, if at all possible.

I know very few companies in the skincare industry who spend most of their budget on research. In fact, I can count them on the fingers of one hand. I know that most of the companies out there are more interested in spending their money on advertising. Just think that they spend about $2 billion a year on testimonials and advertising. The industry generates about $50 billion a year in revenue so this is not a bad investment.

The most shocking fact about how many chemicals, including parabens, that we absorb every year is frightening. It is calculated that the average woman can ingest up to 5 lbs of these in a year. Now that does not mean that all of these will be excreted through the normal channels. Unfortunately, quite a few of these chemicals will actually get into our tissues and main organs and remain there for the rest of our lives.

If we think about the women who have had breast cancer, that is really scary. Researchers with one group of women victims actually found that they had parabens in the breast cancer tissue. Now this des not mean that the parabens caused the cancer but they were certainly very unwelcome and rather sinister guests in that part of a woman's body.

Another reason why paraben free skin products are absolutely essential is that these preservatives are actually linked to generating a sort of mimic oestrogen in the body. As this is one of the main causes of certain types of cancer, it is obviously better to avoid this one like the plague. Then there is that fact that the parabens can actually interfere with our hormonal balance and this is alarming too, to say the least.

Another reason to avoid these parabens is the fact that they upset the whole endocrine system in the body. That is basically our hormone generating capacity. Researchers, as reported in the New York Times, noted that puberty in young teenagers is progressively getting earlier and earlier. There are even some girls who are entering puberty at the age of eight. Boys seem to suffer from unwanted breast development. As we can see, parabens are disruptive in every sense of the word.

It is high time that we looked for substitutes in our skincare products. We want to find perfect skin friendly ingredients and if there is a shorter shelf life, then so be it. I think the advantages of having high class plant oils instead of cheaper petroleum derived products is so obvious.

What we need in a superior product are the following antioxidants which are also rich in flavonoids, have some trace elements such as selenium and also rich in the main vitamins. It is powerful agents like these that can really help to keep the free radicals in check and also promote new skin cell growth. There are also great moisturizers as well, such as shea butter, jojoba oil and capuacu butter.

These then are just some of the reasons why paraben free skincare products are now so much in demand because they give much better results and are so much safer.

Save your time and money by knowing what you are buying. If you are tired of the same old worthless products that fail to live up to their promises, isn't it time you took action?
