Types & Specifications of Solar Power Systems for Homes

There are three types of Solar Power Systems for Homes that are commonly used today. The three types available are grid inter-tied with battery backup, grid inter-tied and off grid solar power systems designed for home use. The difference between the different types is how closely if at all they are connected in with the conventional electric source which is commonly referred to as the grid. A grid inter-tied solar system is a common type of system used because it combines the best of both worlds, allowing the consumer to easily use which ever electric source is available for simple and easy flow between the two sources. A grid inter-tied solar system with a battery backup is designed in much of the same way except there is a solar powered battery backup used which can come in handy in the event of a power outage or to utilize additional solar power when it is needed. An off grid solar system does not use a conventional source of power and relies solely on solar power to operate the electric within the home. There is no connection to the conventional electric grid in this system and battery packs are commonly used to store excess power to utilize when the sun is not available for more than a few days. Which type is best for you depends on the amount of electric consumption typically used within your home.

Pros and Cons of Solar Power Systems for Homes

Solar Powered Systems for Homes are a great way to do your part to be environmentally friendly but there are many things that should be considered to determine if solar powered systems are right for your home. One of the primary disadvantages to converting to solar power is the high cost for materials and installation which is a primary deterrent for many; however, there are tax breaks that can be taken advantage of to help to offset this cost along with the elimination or reduction of expensive monthly energy bills. Another disadvantage that should be considered is that the climate plays an important role in Solar Power Systems for Homes. Therefore, if you live in a climate where it is typically overcast or if your house is blocked from direct sunlight it could affect the amount of power able to be obtained by this type of system. Another great advantage to installing Solar Power Systems for your home is that you can take part in net marketing which allows you to enter into an agreement with the power company in the area allowing them access to excess power for a set fee. Overall, Solar Power Systems for Homes are a great idea if you live in a climate that supports their use.
