Rain water is free and can be taken advantage of by using rain water tanks to collect the rain water as it falls. The materials used are rust resistant and are typically made to block out light in order to prevent algae formation due to exposure to light or heat. Most rain water tanks have an internal liner to protect the quality of the water as well as a screen to prevent external contamination from entering the tank such as insects and other debris particles. Typical rain water tanks range in size from 100 gallons to 20,000 gallons. Industrial size rain water tanks are available that can hold amounts up to 100,000 gallons of water.

So, if you would like to decrease the cost of monthly water supply consider purchasing a rain water tank. Although the expense may be more upfront, it can save a lot of money over time by recycling rain water that can then be used for sanitation reasons, dishwasher, washing machines, toilets and any other common source of water consumption. The amount of money that can be saved can easily make the cost of a rain water tank justified over the course of time.
