To say that we have a fondness for our servicemen and women is an understatement. Charlie being a disabled Vietnam veteran allowed us to have first hand knowledge of the less then stellar care and treatment, lack of information about benefit entitlements and many other issues surrounding the retired veteran. During the early 1970's we had no Survival Guide to help weed through the overwhelming paperwork and medical reviews.
That was almost 40 years ago so surely during that time something has been generated to improve the handling of military issues. The lack of help is not as important to Charlie these days but a story on the news about a young widow not knowing whether she was entitled to receive the military honor guard at his funeral or how to arrange for it made it become important. How could this happen in today's internet adapted world? We began searching for a source that would provide needed information to soldiers, veterans and their families for all types of issues that they face. During that research we found the following shocking results:
Immediately we went to the Veterans Administration... no we did not find it there. Then we tried each individual military branch... no we did not find it there. We knew at that point that Congress would not know where to find such information so we did not even try them.
After all, they are scrambling to find money for the sod at the National Mall since it was supposedly deleted from the stimulus package this week.
We found a very intensive 599 page guide at The Veterans For America web site.
This is a must have for any serviceman, woman, veteran or widow. It is a guide on how to cut through the red tape and bureaucracy. Download your copy today and send it to every service person and their family that you know. Here is the link -
http://www.veteransforamerica.org/home/vfa/
Available on this same site are self help guides for topics such as Agent Orange, Gulf War issue and VA claims. They also have a link to the Wounded Warriors and other important military web sites.
What a huge undertaking to create this Survival Guide must have been. Our hats are off to the Veterans For America for their steadfast approach in weeding through the red tape.
In closing, we would like to thank those who serve, have served and will serve to keep us free. Stay safe where ever you are!
Finally a guide for military service members, veterans and their families to help get through the red tape.
Not found at the Veterans Administration, any of the Military Branches nor from Congress.

More home & family articles: - Power Dressing For Men (Tate Smith)
We often associate power dressing with women but this look has appeared again on the catwalks only this time for men. Italian tailored suits, leather and cufflinks: country tweeds, double breasted coats and technical fabrics: these are all about money, power and hyper-masculinity. - Water Filtration Systems And Their Installation (Keith Pollow)
Toxic chemical compounds, heavy metals, bacteria, and other pollutants contaminate water sources which expose us to diseases and illnesses that can be life threatening such as developing cancer or another serious health condition. - Go Wild In The Countryside (Tate Smith)
You can't beat the countryside for fresh air and exercise but it is important to be dressed appropriately if you want to avoid the 'townie' label. A serviceable jacket, jeans, boots and a piece of men's jewelry such as sports watch are both practical and rugged. But why not consider a leather Harrington jacket and cargo pants, rollneck jumper and cords or a classic military coat and black skinny jeans. - How To Look Smart In A Recession (Tate Smith)
It is difficult to look smart and up to the minute when your disposable income has dropped and unemployment looms. But it is possible to dress well on a budget. A slim fitting suit, white shirt and tie with cheap designer cufflinks still looks the part and hides the fact that tough times lie ahead. - Finding The Right Pair Of Jeans (Tate Smith)
Men can have a problem finding jeans to suit them and when they do, there is the additional problem of choosing suitable mens accessories to add that little bit extra. But find a great pair of jeans and you can look like a million dollars. - Ideas for a Stress Free Kid's Birthday Party (Sherry Lynn Frewerd)
A kid's party is supposed to be a good time for the children involved, not a time that's planned down to the second. Keeping the party simple yet organized can help ensure not only a good time, but a time without stress and tears. - Wind Generators For Home Use (Roger Brown)
