It's a timeless fashion rule of thumb - autumn is all about the earth tone colours. Mahogany brown, burnt red, harvest orange, dark golden yellow, rustic forest green, and the like, all fall into this trustworthy category of autumn fashion must-haves. This year, though, a couple of other distinctly interesting colours are being shown across all types of clothing, making them the best colours for this autumn season.

Let's start with teal. This rich and elegant colour can fall across a wide spectrum of hues and shades, from those with more blue in them to those with more green in them and even some with darker overtones of purplish charcoal. This means today's fashion pieces put forth in teal are perfect for adding a just-right splash of colour without being too flashy or out of place for the season.

Try a dark teal jacket to spruce up your outwear during the rapidly darkening days of fall, or pair a medium teal dress with a darker sweater or blazer to create a professional look that's still attractive, sexy, and beautiful. If you're not quite comfortable with that much teal, think about choosing a colourful teal scarf, hose, shoes, or hat. Even a teal purse, necklace, bracelet, or earrings can be just enough to bring this exciting fall colour into your wardrobe this year.

The other extremely popular and interesting colour this autumn is rich, dark, elegant purple. This colour also shows up across a wide spectrum of hues and shades, from those that are dark yet distinctly purple to those with charcoal-influenced tones. It's a terrific colour for anyone who wants to add just a splash of interest to their fall wardrobe but who is not quite comfortable with anything that's too different from the traditional autumn tones.

The charcoal-type purples are especially elegant and professional looking, which is why they are being shown in everything from evening dresses to professional suits to high-end overcoats and wardrobe staples. The lovely thing about these shades of purple is they are easy to pair with other colours ranging full across the browns, forest greens, and burnt reds. Think about adding in this season's dark purple to your overall look by using earrings, necklaces, scarves, hose, shoes, or a really great purse to complete the outfit.

Enjoy this autumn season by bringing out the traditional fall colours, but if you really want to add some spice and elegance to your wardrobe then also bring out some key fashion pieces in this year's hottest new colours - rich shades of teal and dark, elegant purple.
