Before even attempting to repair your oven, locate your mains electrical supply and unplug your oven from the socket. Don't carry out work that is beyond your capabilities and expertise. If in doubt call a qualified engineer.
In the kitchen, there are many appliances which are used on a daily basis, and the oven is one of those. However, repairing an oven yourself can be cheap and save you money compared to calling a cooker repair company.
If your fan oven is not heating up, then the problem could simply be a faulty fan element. Cooker repair companies could cost you anything from £75 to £125 for this service, while buying the spare part from high street electrical dealers would only cost you £20 to £30.
Most elements are based in the rear of the oven, so remove the back plate from inside your oven. Cooker elements will often show signs of failure such as, burning, bulging, blowing and spitting in a particular area of the oven element.
Sometimes the element will be showing inside the oven, and this can simply be unscrewed. When removing the element be careful not to damage any wiring. Always ensure that you make a note of which way round the wires are connected to the oven element before you remove them. Otherwise inserting your new element could prove to be problematic. In order to insert you new element, follow the above directions in reverse.
If heat is escaping from you door, it is likely your door seal has been damaged. Universal oven door seals may fit hundreds of makes and models, but they may not fit them all be careful when purchasing.
As long as your model has clips in each corners and a 90 degree angle then universal products will more than likely fit your make and model. But before continuing you will need a tape measure, a pair of scissors and the product itself.
Using the tape measure, find the distance between the fixing holes along the horizontal and vertical directions of the oven. Take away 2cm from the measurements to ensure the seal is nice and tight, before cutting up your oven seal into four parts. The ends of each length need to be cut square and so that they are at 45 degree mitre type angles.
Fix the seal through the fixing holes before joining the door seal with the clips provided for all four sides of the oven. This is straightforward to do, and should complete the process.
Whatever you are trying to do yourself in the home, it tends to result in more harm than good if the problem is deeply set. Always have wolf appliance repair taken out when you have appliances that need looking after - don't forget the wolf oven repair either!
