Kitchen area rugs can really add interest to what might otherwise be a dull part of the house, and can be quickly changed whenever there is a need for a new look. In our eagerness to purchase, it can be difficult to remember during the rush to choose between turquoise, olive, traditional or modern that the rugs will be sited in busy areas, and that how we will clean them in the future should be our first priority. Washable kitchen rugs are vital in high traffic areas of the home that are prone to spillage.

Of course, you may be thinking of putting your rugs down in a part of the kitchen that does not receive much traffic, and that washable kitchen rugs won't be necessary because they won't be the direct targets of food spillages. This is not the case. If you've ever found yourself cleaning the upper surfaces of kitchen wall cupboards then you'll already be aware of how every item in the kitchen can attract grease and will need to be cleaned from time to time. Quite how often this should be is determined by how easy it is to see these surfaces, and how often people usually do so. In the case of rugs, this will mean frequently, so washable rugs are a kitchen essential.

As has already been outlined, kitchen area rugs have a practical purpose and are not just for show. Long periods of time spent without your rug on the floor while you're trying to get it washed and dried aren't going to be fun, and it's usually far from easy to find space to dry such large items. Do take the time to check that label to make sure a rug is machine washable before you buy, and you'll save yourself a lot of hassle in the long run.

One thing you must never do though is give into the temptation to put a non-machine washable rug into your washing machine, even if the prospect of damaging the rug doesn't bother you because it's so dirty that replacement is the only alternative. Rugs can absorb much more than their own weight in water, with the result being heavy enough to damage the drum of your machine and invalidate any manufacturer's warranty.

Pre-shrunk washable cotton kitchen rugs are currently finding themselves very much in favor with consumers, but these and other rugs made from natural fibers do have a tendency to soak up spills more easily, and so of course they will need to be washed a lot more often. Synthetic fibers generally repel spills, or simply let them penetrate slowly enough for you to be able to wipe them off before any damage is done. As a rule, regular washing will not cause them to fade as fast. Color and pattern have an impact on frequency of washing too, because stains show less easily against dark colors and can be disguised by complicated patterns. Obviously all rugs will need to be cleaned now and again though, as no color or pattern will reduce the effects of germs or smells.

Choosing kitchen rugs that will wash is easy, but taking on board the points outlined above will give more comfort, convenience and style in your home.

Washable rugs are vital items in the home, especially in the kitchen. Drop by Washable Rugs to get more details.
