To become a paramedic you have to be smart, strong and be able to respond quickly and under pressure. Paramedic training is hard and strenuous work that will push you to your very limits. Every day is differnet and this is one of the things that appeals to people looking for this type of career.
Paramedic training is offered in various places such as your local community college and further training is provided on the job.
There are a series of steps to becoming a Paramedic the first part is you must take the EMT basic class. The EMT basic class will teach you basic life skills such as the heimlach, CPR and how to handle a trauma situation when one arises. Before being able to pass this class you must have your shots up to date, be able to pass a drug screening and have a CPR certification.
After you complete your basic EMT you are now ready for the intermediate class this class will give you more hands on training riding an ambulance and working in a hospital or clinic setting. Once you have passed this portion of the class you are now ready to advance to the next level.
Once you have completed both your EMT basic and EMT intermediate you are now ready to take your Paramedic class. This class will put you through a more intense series of training as well as clinical and ambulance experience. Once you have successfully completed the Paramedic work you are now ready for your National Registry Exam, if you pass this then you have fully completed the Paramedic license process.
Each county and state has their own scheduling system for Paramedics while some may require 24 hour shifts with 2 days off in between another county may require 10 or 12 hour shifts. Being a Paramedic is stressful and no two calls are the same so you have to always stay altert and prepared for the next challenge.
Once you are a Paramedic your training will never stop you will have to continue taking a series of classes to keep what you have learned fresh in your mind as well as keeping your CPR and shots up to date.
Once you have achieved your Paramedic certification you are not just confined to being a Paramedic there are a lot of people that will go on to becoming a nurse or instructor. Once you have successfully completed your Paramedic training you have a world of opportunities before you.
