If you plan to travel, either domestically or abroad, one of the best ways to keep your funds safe is by use of prepaid travel money cards. These money cards offer the safety of traveler's checks but are much easier to use.

Protection

By using prepaid cards, if the card is lost or stolen, no one is going to be able to gain access to your personal information or accounts. Since there is no name on the card, they will not be able to steal your identity by having access to your name and the account number that belongs to you.

Many prepaid cards offer a guarantee that if the card is lost or stolen, a replacement card can be issued within twenty four hours of the report. You will make a report of the last purchase you made with the card and it will be canceled immediately. The money that is remaining will be reissued on another card.

Adding funds

If you need to add funds to the card, you can do so in three different ways. First, you can return to the place of purchase and add more money to the card. You can also add more money online using either your checking account or debit card to add more funds to the card. Lastly, you can add more funds to the card by phone. The latter two options are available from anywhere in the world.

When traveling outside of your home country, purchase using any type of credit or debit card, including those that are prepaid assures you that you are getting the best exchange rate possible. The companies that issue these cards are updated by the minute so you never spend more than you should.

Additional benefits

Purchases made on prepaid cards often receive the same assurance that goes with purchase by a normal credit card. If the item is lost, stolen or damaged, you can get your money back if it was purchased on the card.

In addition to the safety and convenience offered by these cards, many of the card issuers offer other benefits. For example, one company offers protection for baggage that is lost or stolen when being transported on common carriers. While limited to $500, the insurance will help you to have the clothing needed to complete your trip.

Prepaid travel money cards are an excellent choice when your are traveling. They also make a great way to keep money safe even if you will be staying at home.
