A Memorial card is usually about 90mm by 50mm. It could also be called a wallet card. These cards are sometimes distributed around the time of the removal or can also be given out at funeral homes to help close friends and family remember the deceased.

So why do we go through the process and create these cards? Does it help us remember the deceased? I remember when I was a child, when a friend or relation passed away the family always got a wallet card, a memorial card or a book mark made to commemorate the lost family member. But today it is a not so common. With the advent of media available 24/7 we tend to move on faster than ever, but is this a good thing?

I think a memorial card is a good thing. It makes us stop and think of the bigger picture. It makes us think of where we are, where we are going and to possibly think of the people who have passed away. A bookmark or wallet card is a piece that has several pieces of information.

Memorial cards are normally religious depicting a religious image. More contemporary cards often include a photograph of the deceased. The photograph is normally a head and shoulders shot with a verse of an apt poem which can personalize the piece. The poem is one thing that can help depict the deceased. The poem could be about the person’s interests such as sailing or gardening or walking. Failing that a passage from a religious text or prayer could be used. Contemporary cards include poetry from well known authors that again might spark a memory for the people left behind.

A memorial card or an acknowledgement card could also be created some months after the funeral; these are then sent to relatives and friends who could not attend on the day. A photograph of the person, the person's name and date of birth and death are placed on the front and the flip side normally contains a prayer.

Memorial cards can sometimes be left to one side choosing a memorial bookmark or a memorial wallet card instead. These mementoes can be used in everyday life. As we go through our daily chores we come across the photo in our wallet or while reading we notice the poem once more reminding us of the person we have such fond memories of.

A memorial piece is good to create and is also good to come across from time to time, jogging our memories to remember the person.

So it is important to think of how we want to remember the deceased before we embark on the design or creation of a memorial card, bookmark or wallet card.

The concept for the website was devised by one of our directors, who experienced a family bereavement. His involvement in print gave him the responsibility of organising the memorial cards. and wallet cards This was such a challenging task as feelings were still pretty raw and there were also the added family pressures of ensuring a fitting memorial card was produced, the memorial-card.ie site hopes to solve this.

Those born under the Aries astrological sign searching for true love may be having trouble finding someone who is truly compatible. The term evangelical Christian and I share a love/hate relationship. On the one hand, I believe in the good news of Jesus' death and resurrection and desire to share the implications of this news with others. The problem is that for most people in America, the term evangelical Christian is loaded with political undertones...

n dummy terms, chakras actually create fuel within the body, much like a solar panel takes sunlight and converts it into electricity. This is the body's natural way of recharging itself. Unfortunately, over the years people have become heavily dependent on fuel. And I don't just mean gasoline. We have forgotten how to recharge our own batteries.

Maha Shivaratri, the "Night of Shiva" is a powerful experience and gives me a taste of the India that I miss living here in the US.
